My buddy invited me to attend this event. Pretty impressive. I loaded a video I made. Enjoy

I could watch those trains all day. They look kind of heavy to move around though...

They all had tractor/trailers and the rail yard had a track elevator. They just rolled them off the truck on to an elevator platform which moved on rails to the track. drop it down and off they went.

They fueled them with coal, nat gas, gasoline and even some wood fired. I spent a lot of time in the roundhouse checking them out. Found one diesel/hydraulic powered engine which was especially cool.

Loafer recently posted a link for these things... I think they are fascinating; and would like to see them in person.

Really cool...

That is really cool, I only live about 18 miles from Canton, and I've never heard of this event.

Its actually at a guys house there almost in downtown Canton. Dirt road back yo 8+ acres of a big old house and the rail yard. The track loops all over his property. This is apparently a private club. 26 guys are "stakeholders" and have paid for and built this themselves. They have a steamup about twice a year and invite folks from around the US to run their trains there.

There's a place like this in western New York. Private and hidden. We happened upon it one day and asked if we could look around and watch. One old coot said it was private and "NO"...but his teenage grandson brought us in to look at his train. Remarkable craftsmanship. He hitched up a few cars behind it and took us for a ride around the long and winding track. Funny thing was, about half way around the cars came unhitched...but he was having so much fun driving the engine, he didn't realize we weren't behind him until he returned to the station. It was a memorable day for my whole family.

Very cool, I had never heard of it either. I assume if you are running these for fun, you have a little extra disposable income that you could go in on a property. Thanks for sharing.

Not a bad idea; Maybe I could take the motor out of a old and busted Nomad and put it in one. 1500 cc ought to pull dont you think?

I looked on ebay for some of these locomotives and they seemed to go for $15-20 K. Its probably about like our motorcycle habit...
