I don't want to open up a raging discussion about torque specs and their importance, or what tools to use or not use.

What I've always done is this.

With the electric impact from Harbor Freight, I put as much torque as the gun is capable of.

That's it.

I have never had an issue doing this.

Use a lot of grease to hold the limiter springs together, it's just going to melt into the oil.

I'm not advocating my method, just sharing it.

Decide for yourself, and procede at your own risk.

That might be overdoing it..... It this the Impact you have? Look at the max torque spec.

230lbs? LOL

I used the penny method and it worked find to keep the gears in place while torquing the centre bolt.

I was working sick and could not pull 80 ft lbs so i used air and broke the threaded end right off a brand new cam shaft. later I fixed the cam and used it on my own car. And I knew th spec and the air just was too much for cast steel. Bust the treads out of the clutch baskets is going to be costly, when it doesn't need to be.

Torque Wrenches and repair manuals = money well spent. They will save you all kinds of grief down the road.

Torque Wrench

Considering the money you saved doing the work yourself. Invest in a torque wrench. When you break the part you'll definitely wish you did.

The shaft turns before the max torque is achieved.

I checked it once, and I had 102 ft lbs on that big nut.

Close enough in my opinion.

It's NEVER loosened or caused any problem.

I've only used this method about 30 times.

If it was a stationary bolt, I would never use this method.

I bet my Ingersol Rand would shear that nut clean off with the threads in it.

No clutch?

Finally got the new clutch springs and got this all back together. Seems good. Used the Barnett Spring, a question to all you who have done this before. Clutch Grabs now like it never did before. Is this something that will change with use? It feels like a different bike now. Any posts with your experiences are appreciated. I used a tork wrench and did it all by the factory specs.

Yes it will grab better now. Watch the downshifting, it will drag the rear wheel.

Real clutch now. I run that spring too. I never tried but it might even push start rolling down hill. Later than sooner it will change and slip again, but not for a very very long time

No clutch?

Well, I got 46K out of this one. If I can get another 40 out of this one, I'll be happy. Leaving for a 2k mile ride to Canada in two weeks and I'm hoping for no issues. Thanks for everyone suggestions on this project.
