lost clutch

Took bike (05 nomad) out for first ride of spring. After about 30 miles noticed clutch not acting right. After another 10 had no clutch unless I pumped the lever. Even then still didn't have much "pedal". Any thoughts?

Could be the Clutch Slave Cylinder is causing the issue. Located at least on my 99 nomad under the Left Side Cover.
I would pop the cover off and look for leakage.

Fluid was replaced couple years ago. No leak . Reservoir is full.

Make sure the tiny hole in the bottom of the handlebar reservoir isn't plugged with gunk.

Change the fluid every 2 years.

NO ifs ands or buts!

Did it come back after the bike sat? Is so, there is moisture in the fluid which is causing it to flash after the front bevel gear bearing heats up.

You may have more problems than you realize.

This may be a warning that your front bevel gear bearing is on the way out.

I changed my fluids out a couple months ago after changing them about 1 1/2 years before. My clutch master cylinder was acting up. You shoiul have seen the red clay looking build up in the bottom.

MT

Once again, CHANGE THE FLUIDS at least every 2 years.

Change the fluid every 2 years? ROFL

Mine had the factory fluid in it for 11 years...Still worked fine. I just changed it last spring because I didn't like the colour. :-)

Started it up this morning and everything seemed back to normal. Took a short 30 mile ride and no problems. Gonna change the fluid this week and hope that ends the problem.
