Batwing Fairing! Which one should I go for?

I'm going thru this process too. I have the reckless fairing and made up a upper and lower dash. Mounted waterproof and vibration proof gauges from Faria.They are marine gauges..they come in many different styles too..Not cheap..around 400 with senders, customs and shipping

Caddy; the gauges should come with the brackets,on my last fairing I actually siliconed the gauges into position and they held perfectly.
Did you get the sending units with the gauges, you will need one for the oil pressure gauge.
I seen some HD wiring harness for the gauges on Ebay yesterday, but youll have to adapt them to the Nomad. Id probably just make my own up regardless.

I saw a set of beautiful digital gauges in an HD fairing, at the motorcycle show that I'd like to eventually install and replace these.
When 'strobe" orig, put the gauges in they all matched but the tach went on him and replaced it with a different brand. Still, they work and look pretty good. The digital ones are real nice though.

Ive seen the digital gauges as well, they do look nice, but I think I'll stick with the more traditional looking gauges myself.
I think the HD gauges are only 1 1/2" dia. thats what I would like to verify. If thats the case, your choices are severly limited. The 2 1/16" size is very common and there are tons to choose from.

The stock HD gauges in my Tour Glide fairing are 2 1/16". I can't speak for the Electra Glide fairings but I'll bet they're the same. Also need a sending unit for the water temp. I'm about to buy a voltmeter and water temp gauge (with sending unit, etc) from egauges.com. $100 for the set up.

Dang, all this talk about gauges and sending units and money almost makes me want to just stick with Reckless fairing and not worry about the extras. It might be cheaper in the long run for me to do that instead of the HD fairing.

Reckless fairing painted (one color) = $425
Stereo & speakers = $150-$200 (maybe cheaper)

I could probably do that for about $500 all said and done

HD fairing unpainted (inner & outer) = $200 (maybe high)
gauges = $200 maybe with sending units and wiring?
paint = $200-$400

That's $600-$800 for the HD fairing project once it's all said and done! Geez! I may have just talked myself into the Reckless fairing.

Premiux fairing - I have a Tach mounted just under the handle bars - between the Phat risers, and a Digital Kuraykn Voltmeter double sided taped to the right triple tree. What else should I need?

I have to correct myself. The Reckless fairing is $350 + $425 for solid paint! Dang, now I don't know what to do. They will both come out to about the same price.

I think the way to go is the HD fairing if you're gonna add a few gauges anyway. If you want tunes but NO gauges, then I'd look into the Reckless. Not that you can't add gauges to the Recklass later, but they won't be nearly as integrated. I've always liked the "it's not stock...but IT COULD HAVE BEEN" look.

Brackets for what? The guages? They should come with brackets to mount them in the holes.

I knew you could be depended upon Monkeyman to come up with the info!

Sorry for not coming back sooner but the family brought me put for a steak and some beers to celebrate my 51st birthday and I'm only home. If I make any typos it was caused by Guinness!

The gauges I am interested in buying don't have brackets or senders. Are they hard or easy to find? Can they be made up?

I will be relying on my mechanic to do the wiring so do you reckon if I get the various connectors he'll be able to make up a harness?

No brackets or senders with the gauges. If I can just silicone them into the fairing then that is fine with me! The senders are another story, I never factored them into my equation! I presume it's off to eBay to source them?
I think you are right about the wiring. I spent 2 hours on Google & eBay yesterday looking for the wiring harness for the batwing fairing (thats still in Minneapolis) and was none the wiser for it so I forsee my mechanic making one up.

It is not as easy as it at first appears and that's for sure!!

Caddy; Check prices with a Harley dealer, I don't think the sending unit is a very expensive part.

Too late for me now! I have to put gauges into the fairing as it would look crap without them! IMHO!

It is more trouble and work but I do believe it will be worth it in the end to
have gone down the HD road.
