wtf with tires rant

got me a new (leftover) 2013 Vaquero on june 23

got 4100 miles on it already, planning a 4 day road trip for labor day

no way does the stock Bridgestone got more than 1000 miles left on it, so off with its head

soooo spent a whole lot of time on Motorcycle superstore, and other than the stock tires you pretty much can not buy matched set of tires, the Commander II rear is backordered
and its only in the 180 width

so i bought a Commander II front
and an Avon rear, went with the 160/80/16, i used to do this on my nomad and alway got better miles out of em than the other 180 width replacements

and since i cant get them shipped anything other than ground, i won t get them til thurs,
luckily the guy i sold my nomad to has a 160 Shinko rear new in his garage hes dropping me off today, i ll change that out and should be good for a trip to Lake George this weekend

so i ll have a Bridgestone front, Shinko rear, than a Michelin Front and an Avon rear on deck

would be really nice if there were more tire options for the Vaquero

update, i did notice i could get a matching set of the Night Dragons, alas in the 180 width
but, since i v never tried them i think it will now be my next set

I feel your pain! I FINALY got my rear Commander II for the second set, but I still am glad I waited. The rear from the first set wasn't totally worn off and I got 29k out of the set. Love them!

I finally got a set of Elite III's last week. Wanted the C II's but couldn't wait any longer. I was told the soonest on the C II's would be at least the 3rd week of Sept w/no guarantee then. Oh well, maybe next set.... Maybe with C II sales being so high some of the other mfg's will step up??

Just noticed your user name. Where you a patron of the Covered Bridge Restaurant?

Years ago Pirelli put out a really good motorcycle tire. I'm not sure how they are today.

Seems the tire manufacturers would make some great replacement tires for our bikes in the stock sizes since there are so many of our bikes on the road, and they love to eat tires.

I put a Commander II on the back and didn't like it. I don't like the profile and it seems very slick in the wet. I put a Night Dragon on the front and love it, so i matched it with the reinforced rear. Now it rides like I want it to, unfortunately I won't have mileage reports for a while, my Vaq is down for a little bit.

Before I went to the Darkside, on my 12 Nomad, I ran a Shinko Journey. It was a 180/70/16, and I got about 10,000 miles out of it, great tire for about $110.00 . I do love the Darkside though, and won't go back.
