Avon Cobra Tire Pressure Question

Just bought a brand new set of Avon Cobras....UPS guy dropped them off today. I usually run 40-40 in my stock 'stones...but could swear I read a members post here awhile back who had these tires and said he was running about 50 psi in the rear to help reduce overall wear.

For you guys who have these Cobras....what are your thoughts? I have about 8000 miles on my stock tires with an 1100 mile trip planned for Memorial Weekend. As soon as I return from that, I will be putting on the new skins before heading to Custer and was just curious what everyone is running with these things. Thx.

What did they recommend for the front?

I also sent them a message on front tire pressure. Recommended 36psi....which seems a little low to me.
Just curious what they told you.

I'm waiting to hear Cliff's (vulcanE) comments.....he just put nitrogen in his Cobra's a couple days ago.

Avon Cobra Tire Pressure Question

I was told by the shop that installed my Cobras to run 40 in the front and 42 in the rear.

The shop that mounted my rear tire recommended 42 also. I don't have a front Cobra yet so I didn't ask the shop or the factory about pressure on the front.
Trip, I read somewhere about a Cobra owner who began having cupping problems running the pressure at 42. I think it was on the Kawasaki board. I'll run mine at 50 unless the ride is too bumpy, then I'll lower it to ~ 46.

Avon Cobra Tire Pressure Question

Hi Mitch,

Looking at the load you are carrying/pulling, I you should use 44psi front and 50 psi rear.

Best regards,

Peter J McNally

M/C Technical Product Manager

Above is the email I received from Avon about suggested pressures front and back riding 2 up and pulling my trailer.

Avon Cobra Tire Pressure Question

Response below for single and two up riding from Avon rep:

Mitch,

50psi is high unless you are fully loaded with trailer. Normally we quote standard pressures for solo, then add 2-3psi front and rear for 2up or 2up with luggage. We would increase it again for trailer use.

Best regards,

Peter J McNally

WOW, that 50psi rear is heating up to somewhere around 60psi!

Avon Cobra Tire Pressure Question

This the only time I agree with Trip: I run 40 front and 42 rear on my Cobras.
