salvage title values

is there a web site that has the price of bikes based on if they have a salvaged title, like the KBB site for salvaged? I have a buddy looking at a bike, the owner said he bought it salvaged and didn't know why it was salvaged. he put 6K on it and is selling for more than the kelly blue book value for trade in with a good title. I could not find anything on how much a salvaged title detracts from it's value. well, beyong buyers common sense I guess. thanks for any help.

Don't know of a rule of thumb for salvaged vehicles. A salvaged title just means that at some time the vehicle was declared a total loss and an insurance company paid off on it.

I purchased a used truck for my son with a salvaged title due to the truck had been stolen, paid off and then recovered undamaged.

The bike could have been wrecked, water damage, stolen , etc. My rule of thumb is 75 to 80% of book value. Just my 2 cents.

A vehicle can have a salvage title with minimal damage or can't tell what it was. So, IMO, a vehicle with a salvage title is worth whatever somone is willing to pay. People have bought salvaged vehicles for parts, some have bought them to restore.

If the owner doesn't know why it has a salvaged title, I wouldn't buy it imho. I would want to know what type of accident it had been in.

I'd only buy salvage if I never inteneded to try and resell. Seems that it reduces the value by 25% minimum, and perhaps as much as half or more. If someone is trying to get KBB value with a salvage title, I'd keep looking.

I would tell my friend to keep looking. There are a lot of deals on titled bikes. And selling in the future won't be a problem.

The stigma attached to Salvage Titles make them (cars, bikes,....) difficult to resell. Street smarts value... 30% - 50% deduct.

+1 also some states make it difficult to register salvaged vehicles so make sure he checks the local laws before buying.

My bank's rule is that they will only finance 75% of clean book value. that is a good rule to go by. If it is fixed up perfect or even better than new that gives you a good place to start your negotiation
