I agree with you. When I'm in a group and riding in staggered formation, I abandon it in corners and ride my own ride for the corner, then fall back into the stagger formation after the curve.

I prefer that everyone falls back into the same stagger that they entered. So if I was in the left track going in, I hate it when people fall back into a different placement putting me in the right track after coming out.

I've been in groups that keep the same stagger for hundreds of miles, and other groups that lose it after a couple of 90 degree turns.

Yeah Dan,

It's funny how some folks do in groups. Drag too far behind causing the accordion effect.

Also I've seen real confusion with group rides going thru an intersection with a stop sign! I've seen folks in groups just blast on thru...no no no....not unless you have an escort that is holding traffic. If no escort each person needs to stop and proceed when they are sure the way is clear..just because you're in a group doesn't mean you can run a stop sign. The lead bike should hold down his speed until all of the group is fairly well caught up after the intersection and then can proceed on. IMHO

I don't like side by side riding at all. I like the stagered formation. I have been riding a long time but don't feel comfortable going into a curve next to another rider. did that in the early days and got run off the road.

Large groups are inherently more dangerous than small groups. Also,the two second rule, 60 mph equals 88 ft/sec. So two seconds is 176 feet. That my friends is just a tad under 60 yards behind the bike directly in front of you.
