RIDING IN THE SNOW

For the first time in all my years of riding, I rode in a snow squall on interstate 95 this morning. Kinda weird. Visibility was down a bit but no traction issues. I'm sure some of you have probably ridden on snow covered roads before. How about sharing some tips for dealing with that type of "extreme" riding.

I also avoid riding in the snow. You can get away with it if the roads are still warm, the snow just melts. But if it's snowing and sticking at work, we take cars :(

motorcycle ski's - well there's an idea, NOT. When it snows, it's time to break out the 4 wheel drive - for maximum traction.

I have ridden in the snow but it was not planned either time. Once was on Memorial Day Weekend on the way to Boise. We took a scenic route through central Idaho and the Sawtooth Mountains. As we went over the mountain pass it snowed hard enough to cover the windshield and started to stick on the road. Stayed in the wheel tracks until we got to lower elevations. Second time was last month for a Blue Knights breakfast meeting in town. It was spitting snow here at the house and I figured it would go away. Not. Was worse down in town. For some reason I was the only guy who showed up on two wheels that day. Generally I try to avoid snow and ice but in Idaho at 4700 feet above sea level you gotta be ready. Best thing is just slow down and stay in the wheel tracks. If it gets deep enough that the wheel tracks are covered it is time to shut it down. Hey, life is an adventure.

Thanks Idaho. That's the kind of info I needed. I would not ever venture out if it had already snowed but in New England it can snow unexpectedly this time of the year. Life is THE adventure my friend.
