I have been looking at getting back on 2 wheels. I saw a
'99 Nomad that is almost showroom condition and has less
than 5K miles on it. Looking for info about bike, thought this
would be a good source of info.
I live in N.E. Tennessee near Kingsport.

Wes :)

Welcome to the Nomad Nation from the Grand Canyon State.

The 1999 Nomad is the only year of Nomad with a known problem. It has a plastic oil gear that can crap out on you. You should ask the seller if the plastic oil gear has ever been replaced. This was a recall item, if I believe. A dealer may be able to look up your VIN# and see if there's a record of it being done. From 2000 on, they used a steel gear. Only 99's had this problem.

I have a '99 Red/Red. The local dealer did the replacement for me when it failed. If you can find a Judge's Steel Oil Gear, that can be done by someone that has some good mechanical background by getting the information from the Gadget page (located on the links page here a KawaNOW).

If you get the '99, I'm sure you will love it and be a proud owner of one of the first production runs of the bike.

Welcome from Colorado!
What CJ and CoachA said, great bike as long as you take care of the POG.

Thanks for the tip. The bike is at a dealer now and they are a
Kawasaki dealer, so I will ask them to check to see if the recall
has been done. I hope a deal can be worked out, I really like
the color on this bike, it is a bright metallic green with a sort
of gold trim, really nice!

Welcome from Jacksonville Florida. The plastic Oil gear or "POG" was not a recall item in the sense that you took it into the dealer and they replaced it. instead Kawasaki would wait until it went out on you and at that point would replace it at no charge. However, you have to shut it down imedietly when your oil light comes on and have it hauled to the dealer. Any access damage done by continueing to ride it after the oil light comes on will not be covered. it's been my understanding that kawasaki has covered every 99 nomad that has had the POG failure regardless of miles or how many owners the bike has been through.
