Anyone heard of 123gohelmets?

Been looking at a new helmet. Went on Ebay and found a place that sells helmets at low prices.

http://123gohelmets.com/

They sell DHS concept brand. Haven't heard of them. Anyone heard of them?

No, I've never heard of them or their helmets. $74.99 for a full-face modular seems ridiculously low. I'd be concerned about quality. They are probably Chinese (many brands are). They probably use asbestos for padding to keep costs down or something.

+1 I like to think my head is worth more than that. May be a good helmet, can't say for sure, but won't be me testing that out.

Oh well, worth a try and no I don't want to be a crash dummy. A little further investigation and found one on ebay that I have tried on before at a store but didn't really feel like dumping $270 plus tax at the time. It is a HJC IS-MAX at a good price of $150 with shipping.

Waterman, gosh they are selling DOT & Snell certified helmets. If you can get a DOT aproved Full face helmet with removeable washable liners for $30-50 maybe you should get one??? We'll all look like dummies telling you to spend $150-$250 if they turn out to be good. A couple times in my life the cheapest alternative has also turned out to be the best. Maybe this is one of yours?

Trosco,

I know what you are saying. However, I know how the HJC IS-Max fits (tried on at a dealer). However, I don't know about these and how they will fit. I am thinking it over and may try it but still thinking. I don't need it now and can wait till spring. The helmet I have now cost around $50 and it has been a good one.

I have read that helmets should be purchased where you can put it on and shop the entire store while wearing it. A slightly poor fit won't bother you until after 1/2 hour or more. Probably less with the wind banging it around. I went against that advise and purchased my helmets online. The HJC Vulcan 1/2 helmet fits fine while the 3/4 has a pressure point at the top of my forehead that really starts bothering me after about 1 hour. I got lucky with the 1/2 helmet. My next will be purchased where I can wear it for a little while to be certain that the fit is OK. I have to agree that those prices are very good. Almost too good.

I don't know about this shop but I bought a 3/4 helmet with face shield DOT approved helmet on E-bay just wanted to see what they were like, I like the shield but the liner in the top of the helmet is just a piece of cloth no padding. But then what do you expect for $39.99

Hey Trip, now I know you are a smart guy!
Vette's & Nomads = the good life! Yes they are/were mine.
I actually have been down sizing this last couple years. Had the white 69 race car and a silver 69 convert concourse car along with the blue 02 convert and a 68 Mustang & 70 Ford stepside. (Old Blue) And had 86 Aspencade that I bought new and 05 V-star. Sold "Old Blue" then the mustang then the 69 convert and the Vstar and the wing and bought the 07 Nomad. Last to go a couple months ago was the race car to a guy in Corpus Cristi who plans to restore it. It ran SCCA in 69-70-71 and has quite a racing history. So now have just the 07 Nomad and the blue 02 but it never ceases to put a smile on my face. Has a Rampage III kit so 572 HP at the rear wheels and carbon fiber hood, waterfall and rear deck lid so down almost 300 lbs from stock. Yours looks good, had it along time?

Here is another one of my opinions.
I think we should buy an item from the place where we can try it on. Not only for the fit but if the dealer is willing to invest his or her money in stocking an item so you can see it and actually touch it or try it on, they should get the benifit of the sale.
If I was a dealer and tied my money up in inventory and someone came in, tried on something to get the right fit, put it back and looked at me and said , yup, that's the exact item I want thanks, I am going home and order it on line now cause I can get it cheaper, it would pi$$ me off.
What's you guys opinion on my opinion ???

TC, I agree with you. My wife used to work in retail and the markup is much higher than most folks would believe. Now if I go to a dealer to find what will fit and avail myself of his services I will still check what the online price is, including the shipping and if it's lower I will ask the dealer how close he can get to the total online price. If he can match or even come close I've saved a few bucks. If he can't make an adjustment I will pay his price. I don't think it's right to try on his stock and use up his time and then buy it elsewhere just to save a few bucks.

Actually, I am doing exactly that right now. Yesterday my wife and I went to the nearest Kawasaki dealer to find a jacket, boots and pants that would fit her. She is not easy to fit and the sales person spent a good bit of time with us. We found a pair of Joe Rocket Mesh pants that fit her and purchased them at his price. We also found a Joe Rocket Mesh jacket that fit. He's ordering it in the color she wanted. He had the same Tour Master Solution boots that I had found online but not in her size. He's ordering them as well. I could save $28 by ordering the jacket and boots online but I will not do that. He gets the sale.

I guess it depends upon the savings. However, the one dealer that carries a good selection of helmets is way overpriced. Like about $150 on the HJC IS-MAX and won't come down. Personally I find that price gouging. Yes I have gone to dealers and paid more than I could on-line but not substantially. I do like to keep some stores open. That said I have bought other things from this dealer (parts and a dirt bike). He is very good at finding odd ball parts. Also, I generally try to buy local if at all possible. Again, paying more because of time and service and again keeping a local business in business. However, I will not take a screwing and smile about it.
