Charlie,
If this is the route you are considering, consider this. At the buy it now price of $850....add a Wompus mounting bracket for your bike (about $250 I think, and black in color), a luggage rack for the top, which you will want (about $150, you install)....then the cost of painting it to match your bike (you guess....let's just say $250)....that's $1500.00 give or take.

For that you could get one from Premeux pre-painted, with a chrome mounting bracket and luggage rack pre-installed. 20 minutes to install it on the bike and it's road ready! Spendy I know....but you're getting close already with this set-up. There are certainly cheaper options, but if you are thinking of going this way....give it some thought....JMHO...good luck!

Netnorske does have a good point. I got my trunk off ebay, perfect condition, for $418. And it is an Ultra tour pack. I did have to repaint it, but I already had the paint and rack from a previous trunk that I had on the bike.

Damn. Unless you absolutely have some burning desire to have a genuine HD trunk - you ought to look at a Scootworks model. It'll save you 300 bones right off the top. There are also things you are going to need to add, like a rack to mount it on...$200, paint...$200+, passenger backrest...$200, it all adds up.

Thanks guys. I keep leaning toward the Premeux, especially since I'm not always the most dedicated to "projects".

Charlie,
My experience with Serge at Premeux was a great one. I had the thing in about two weeks of ordering it! It came very well packaged in two boxes. The big one had the trunk in it and the smaller one had the chrome mounting bracket.

One thing I would suggest though is if you get one, when you put the mounting bracket on your bike, use some lock washers with the Allen head bolts. They won't be on there when you remove the OEM bracket...but you'll want to put some on before you tighten up the new bracket....you'll need four of them. Good luck!

in the past week I have saw 3 trunks and one fairing. a hd fairing trunk and saddlebags for $1200, and two tour pacs for $500 all seemed to be in decent shape.

Just for your information

I agree with the op. If you are going for the HD style tour pack you are more times than not, better off going with the Premeux. It's new, it's paint matched to your scoot, and it comes with a Chrome Rack. If I wouldn't have found the Venture trunk that I am working on as cheap as I did, I would have bought the Premeux one.

If you choose to go with a HD Tour Pak, get one from an Ultra Classic. It comes with the tailights built into it and a carpeted liner. Mine was already on the bike when I bought it, If I ever find one from an Ultra I would replace mine just to have the extra brakelights and tailights.

I agree that buying one from premeux with the mounting bracket is the best way in the long run. I bought a ventura had it painted, made my on bracket powder coated it and ended up with about 900 and a lot of work. I am not sure if it is as nice as the premeux either.

HD is not cheap that is for sure, but that is the way I went. I looked at Premeux, and seriously considered it, but in the end wanted a few things that the Premeux did not have. I paid right around $1700 for the King Tour Pak (not the Ultra), backrest, rear spoiler, luggage rack, CB antenna mount, fitted liner, sidewall organizer, side marker lights, and scootworks rack. The extra accessories accounted for easily $300 of that total. I really like the newer Tour Paks with the wrap around side marker lights so that really swayed my decision. Didn't want the big Harley logo and text on the back of the Ultra tour pak though, but did like the brake lights on the Ultra

Tried eBay, but people were bidding them up to full retail last summer, for a used tour pak, made no sense to me so finally gave up and just bought it new.

Bought it last summer from a Latus Harley in Oregon when the Canadian dollar was higher than the US, so did it at just the right time I guess. I bought black pearl / silver and the color is close to the black on the Nomad, but the Nomad is missing the pearl. Will likely get it painted at some point, but pretty close for now.

Thanks for all the input! The pressure is off because they cancelled my wifes June vacation on her, so we won't be going on a bike trip together this year. Now I can see the trunks that show up in Custer and take my time. Maybe I'll make it next winters project.

I purchased my trunk (Super Trunk II) from Scootworks and have been very pleased with it. I understand that now they have moved to the Super Trunk III). I am confident that it too would be a good buy. They are similar to the HD trunk, all fiber glass, very durable, etc. Check out mine for a better idea.

Hey Guys, I went to scootworks website and the super trunk 3 was 430 in gloss black, backrest was 246, and their rack was 255 for a total of 931.00 I didn't think that was too bad, what do you guys think? That scootworks mounting rack is what everyone is getting for their own trunks, right?

Price is not bad at all. I went with new H-D and paid $774 for the Tour-Pak (can get it for as low as $698 though now), 210 for the backrest and $255 for the rack from Scootworks for a total of $1163 at the lower TP price. I really like the accessories available for the H-D Tour Pak, specifically the spoiler with brake / running lights and the side market lights. It was worth the extra $230 for me.
