Blue Ridge Parkway

I just returned from three days of riding around Lexington, Va. One day we rode the curvies around Lexington. The next we road south on the Blue Ridge. The final day we rode north on the Blue Ridge and Skyline Drive. The Blue Ridge was almost as nice as riding in Colorado. I would highly recommend it.

We saw a gagle of Nomads and a Voyager. The riders were from Canada. They were telling me the Nomad was very popular in Canada. Probably more so than the Road King.

If you are looking for a beautiful fun ride, try the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Yes, the Parkway in VA is nice but if you really want to experance the Parkway you must ride the strech in NC. 10 times better.

Did the entire ride a couple years ago, north to south. Started in Skyline Drive, VA. It ends near Tail of the Dragon.

400+ miles of no stop signs or traffic lights. Some pokey touristas/sightseers, so be prepared to enjoy, not to "make time."

Fully, fully recommend. Prepare for changes of temperature: from sweating to using every last layer you have.

Prepare for rain also. Every time I've been on the BRP we've gotten some rain. Maybe not much, but some.

We're up on the BRP quite often. I can catch it about 65 miles from here.

We're heading that way today. And no, you can't ask for a better ride.

Will be down there in about 6 weeks. Last year the fog was sooooo bad we had to get off and seek lower ground. It was just to thick to ride up there, as I don't like suicide rides :-)

Although the effect is the same as fog, you were riding through a cloud.

They don't look billowy and puffy and white from the inside, do they?

The Blue Knights is an International Law Enforcement MC club. Here in the pacific northwest we have mingled quite a bit with chapters to the north in Canada. None of them ride Harleys. The reason? According to them too many dirtbags ride Harleys and they refuse to be associated with that image. Maybe that mindset is more widespread in Canada that we knew.

Perhaps one of our Canadian members can shed some light.

Maybe some where else in Canada, but here in Quebec you see way more Harleys.
Yesterday for example, We rode to my cottage in the laurentians mountains. The trip is mostly on very popular roads for bikes. I saw 2 other Nomads all day out of the 200+ bikes we encountered. A lot were sport bikes maybe 30-40 %, but of the cruisers I would say Harleys by far out numbered all the other brands of cruisers combined.

I would have to say someone in that mindset is still living in the late sixties early sevinties Harleys are for doctors and lawyers to ride to the local tim Hortons.......the dirtbag bikers are now riding in escalades and hummers.

We were lucky with our ride. We never saw the first cloud. Our only issue was gnats. They made stops miserable. Our ride was cool in the morning and warm in the afternoon. We did get buzzed by an F-18 on the top of a mountain. That was interesting. I saw a shadow and then heard jet engines. For a moment my wife wondered how we got ran over by a semi.

Traffic was not bad at all. Lots of bikes of all types.

The traffic was not bad. There were a lot of bikes.

It's hard to argue with that. This weekend was the best to be on it!

Blue ridge was the highlight of our 6000 mile trip last summer.

Should we schedule a Nomad ride down the Blue Ridge this summer?

There's a ride planned for the BRP during the SE Rally.
