CaddmannQ, how's it going with the smoking cessation. I would hope you are over the hump now and things are downhill from now on.

Thank you for asking: it's 3 weeks free as of today.

Oh, and I did finally use the lighter. I lit the candles on my grand daughter's birthday cake Sunday.

Yeah, and I learned a valuable lesson too: Pay attention when you're eating!

I was reading this site and eating lunch yesterday when I ate one of those little Chinese chili peppers. Yikes! That thing almost killed me. Probably burned out half of my taste buds in 30 seconds flat.

Ya, the ol taste buds have come back to life since ya quit. It has been a little over ten weeks for me and I am feeling better about quitting every day. Now I can ride for more than 45 minutes, don't stop for a smoke.

Grrrrr....I QUIT!!!

My father was a multi-pack smoker for over 50 years. Twenty years ago it took him a few years to get off the cigarettes because of the nicotine buildup in his system. Now at 89, with the associated old age problems, he is happy he quit. The doctors say he would be in a whole lot worse shape if he hadn't stopped. He doesn't have to carry oxygen bottles with him, or sleep with oxygen, like a good many of his friends. Listening to some of those poor guys' breathing difficulties is heartbreaking. All things considered my father is in pretty good shape for his age.

Hang in there. When you have less medical problems as you get older, you will thank yourself times over.

Lots of retirees in the area and you see lots of people toting their oxygen with them. It's sad, but they did it to themselves in many cases. My dad quit smoking cold turkey in 1967 after he had a bleeding ulcer. My mom smoked until the day she died (not from smoking, though) and my dad could not get her to stop.

...and good for both of you (CQ and Meanstreak) keep going, you'll be grateful someday.

No heart attack here, but I knew it was a just a matter of time because I was definately headed in that direction. I've seen too many folks I know have bypass surgery over the past 20 years.

Sue, you and Nico have taken the art of posting disturbing pictures to a whole new level.

This is day 25 of the struggle to recover from 36 years of smoking. Lessee...36 years...I'm 53...I figure if I live to be 89 years old, I'll have broken even. I should count the first 17 years of my life into the equation and say "by age 106" but who are we kidding here? I'll be lucky to make it to 70 all things considered.

Everyone in my family smoked except for my dad's mother, and my parents both smoked like crazy. My mom told me they smoked in the hospitals and actually allowed women to smoke in the maternity ward back in the 50's. She said the last thing she did before I was born, and the first thing she did afterwards, was to have a smoke.

So essentially, I started feeling the effects 9 months before I was born. I'm not sure how one would reverse that kind of influence.

Anyhow, back then pregnant women smoked in the hospital, and nowadays a dying man can't even smoke in a bar. My how times have changed. ::)
