Thought so...

Damn thing was/is so damn tight I stripped out the head on screw #2. I was even using the JIS screwdriver

Dammit now I got to figure out how to get the 1 screw out.

Are the covers plastic chrome? I know the damn thing is 35 bucks.
Ughhhhhh

I always found it beneficial to loosen the two clam-shell screws first, then go after the top screws.

That stainless is soft, I have messed up all my screws on the bars from time to time. Better luck with the JIS drivers, but still an issue.

Can you cut a slot in the top of the head for a standard driver to fit?? Dremel a slot, with a cutting wheel. Usually works for me. Or I have had some luck with an impact driver, just be careful.

Even if you damage the area around it, that damn thing needs to come out. Just try not to do any more damage.

Put a bit of anti-seize on the new screw threads and a bit on the tapered portion before installing.

I drilled the head off of the screw, removed the cover and then removed the rest of the screw. Funny thing is, once I drilled the head off the rest of the screw came out with my finger easily. Seemed as though the head of the screw was stuck to the cover somehow.

Crazy it was loose, but the screw came out. Well done.

That happens because of the leverage that is applied by the last screw that was tightened.

If it doesn't move, meaning the screw you choose to remove first, try one of the other screws, it is the last one tightened that has the last say on the pressure applied to the other screw heads that you are looking for.

And as stated, adding a little Never-Seize will greatly improve your future chances of removing the screw without a lot of fuss.

Remember: Dissimilar metals corrode. Or stick together, how ever you want to say it. Never-Seize will prevent the sticking.

A word of caution, using Never-Seize also allow things to slide easier, so you can pull the threads easier.
