Independence Pass, Colorado

Great ride this weekend (6/24 & 25, 2017) through the heart of the Wasatch range in western Colorado.
The route took us over two of the higher mountain passes in the state - Independence (#3) and Monarch Pass (#15). 14,000 ft peaks as far as the eye could see.
From Grand Junction Via I-70, CO Hwy 82, US-24 & US 50.

On the approach to the summit of Independence Pass. Very narrow and twisty road before breaking out into this valley. Closed in winter, and no vehicles/trailers over 35ft at any time. In some places, no center stripe and so narrow you'd swear it was a one-way.

Independence Pass summit - 12,095 ft. Above the tree line, and still plenty of snow up here at the end of June. Windy and cold. Temps in the high 40's at noon.

Twin Lakes area outside Buena Vista, CO. Beautiful country.

Monarch Pass - 11,312 ft. About 40 east of Gunnison, CO.

Stayed the night at the Gunnison, CO KOA. Nice place.
Round trip from Grand Junction - about 400 miles.
