Head buffeting

Hello all. I am starting to get a headache with the buffeting that I am getting at 100+ km/hour (60+mph for our US friends). I have raised the windshield and lowered that piece of plastic so it is nearly touching the headlamp housing. I have a HJC open face helmet. When the clear plastic shield is on, not much buffeting. When it is off, I get a hell of alot more. I don't know if this is something that can be fixed. Suggestions?

Try playing with the height of the shield, also leave some space between the lower piece and the headlight assembly. I found the larger lowers from Chuckster really helped as well.

I have a Clearview Recurved windshield

I removed the inner-shield and the Clearview sets on top of the headlight bucket.

I also use crash bar chaps

Large lowers from Chuckster

I use an open face helmet.

Very little head buffeting.

Ditto on the lowers, chaps, and helmet. They all help.

I plan to buy the clearview as well....not for buffeting but to get rid of the goofy Kawasaki shield.

Larger lowers is the first place to start. Your buffeting is from air flowing up over the gas tank. Larger lowers pushes that air to the side so that it does not come up under the windshield and over the tank.

As Idaho and the rest suggest. I cut and fitted 3/16" Lexan for larger lowers and that cut most of the "head buffeting". I also added a recurve windshield to my fairing which got most of the rest. When I have my Airlite barchaps on I get 0 buffeting.

Bdog also recently posted a design for a small deflector over the front fender so you may want to check that out.

Since you don't live in the deep south/desert, you might consider some crash bar lowers. Airlite, JTD, HD or Fairing Factory all make lowers that either fit or can be made to fit. Once I move my fairing back, I won't be able to use fork mounted lowers anymore so I'll get a set of either JTDs or FFs.

Like Hammer suggested..make up an air damm. It almost eliminates all buffetting.
