the Magellan Roadmate 2000 mount is gone

Once upon a time ...
I had a Magellan Roadmate 2000. It was suppose to be water proof rated 7 out of 10. Well on my way back from Custer I hit hard rain and I guess it went over the #7 rate. I ended up getting water under the touch screen and the GPS is toast. I have tried drying it in a bunch of ways to no avail.
Anyway.... I have a couple of mounts for it that I no longer need. I would like to offer it to anyone who can use it. Otherwise I'll throw it up on eBay and make a few bucks.

this photo shows the upright position of the mount. The others are turned the wrong way.

One is set up for a car, windshield suction mount. The other one is just the top portion. With the ram "arm" and the handlebar piece you could attach it on your ride.
This is the GPS or a picture of one.

You might try putting it in a bunch of rice as rice absorbs moisture. Have seen it used to dry out cell phones.

I had a problem with my waterproof handheld Magellan unit while hunting this fall. It must be a common failure with their units. I got lucky and mine dried out after two weeks and seems to be ok again. However I'll never be able to trust it in the bush again. Im currently looking for a new unit.

Steve ....too bad you didn't see my post on the Zumo 220 motorcycle GPS. The GPS store

{ www.gpsstore.com } had it on for $299.00 reg. $439.00 It came with all the wiring for hard wiring, the quick cig. plug in, car mount, bike mount, +, +,......a scream'in deal. Check the site out maybe it's still on sale. I'd go so far as calling them and asking if you could get the sale price.

Ive been on the phone with Magellan and they have offered to sell me their new explorist 610 for $200.00, they sell here for $450.00 plus tax. I'll probably try another one of their units, but I'll throw it in a bucket of water as soon as I get it to test it out.

See if it or whatever Magellan GPS you buy can take the same mount as the "roadmate 2000". Many of the Magellan GPS's may take the same mount. You could save buy taking my mount off my hands.
Just a thought.

Thanks for the offer Rick but The unit Im looking at is a handheld GPS not the automotive style versions. It the Explorist 610. I need it for hunting and fishing primarily. It does have road maps as well as topo maps loaded in it so it will be able to serve both functions. I have a Garmin unit that I use on the bike but Ill give the Magellan a try also once I get it. It will still be a few weeks as Magellan is still working on the Canadian topo map for this particular unit.

My wife dropped her cell phone in water. She put it in a bowl of rice for 2 days and it started working again. Still okay after 6 weeks.

Yes I have heard about that and took the entire GPS apart and submersed just the screen in a bag pf rice for over a month. It still didn't get enough of the moisture out where it would allow the touch screen to work. Maybe if I leave it out long enough it'll eventually dry out. By then I'll forget how the thing goes back together, probably.
Thanks for the suggestion though.
