summer jacket with armor

Hi people,
I'm looking for either an armored ,full jacket for a summer ride down to the desert......or an "under the shirt" type of armored mesh jacket, that can give me the protection I want while still staying as cool {temperature wise} as possible. Can anyone direct me to a web site that might be able to cover this need??
Thanks
Rickyboy

What desert are you riding to? I live in the Sonoran desert and I am miserable riding wearing anything more than a t-shirt here in the summer. I am considering buying a "cool vest" for the warm months.

You might consider something like this...

I ran across this site awhile back, seemed kinda spendy but it might be worth a look. Bohn-Armored-Pants.com They have for under jeans or shirt/coat.

I've got a FirstGear mesh jacket with armor. Might check their selection.

I have a Vanson Ventilator Full Mesh with shoulder, elbow, and spine armor. This is an outer jacket. I removed the spine armor because it was very uncomfortable on long rides with my backrest. This model has been replaced by the second generation ventilator 7VN2 according to their website.

http://www.vansonleathers.com/obsole...ventilator.htm

I used it in conjunction with a hydration vest on my trip to Alaska last summer. Coming out of Great Falls Montana the temperatures were hovering about 110. The cooling affect of the hydration vest and blocking of the sun on my arms made for a bearable ride. When first soaked up with water, the vest can actually have a chilling effect for the first 10 minutes. It is good for about 45 minutes. However, since you're already cool you can ride comfortably for about an hour longer before re-hydrating.

In temps below 95 here in Texas, on long daytime rides, I use it without the hydration vest and the mesh is actually cooler that bare skin under direct sun while ridding.
