1600 engine into 1500 nomad

a source states that a nomad 1600 engine will fit into a 1500 nomad without modifications? 1500 engine comes out 1600 engine goes in.

Am I understanding that correctly?

Pm Ringhadingh or Mastequila I believe both have done it. Only issue being if the 1500 is a carbed bike then you will probably use the carb on the 1600 rather than the FI.

Thats correct, I currently have a 1600 motor in my bike, everything bolts up and plugs in, the only thing I had to do was use the fuel injectors from the 1500 motor as they are slightly different from the 1600 in my case. They were a direct swap with no modifications required.

thankyou for the advice about the fuel injectors. in the info i reviewed no one had mentioned changing fuel injectors or I did not note it as being mentioned.

I will have to review the manual to see what is involved in that.

The only reason I had to swap the injectors is because of the fuel pressure regulator, on my 1500 it is mounted externally on the injectors, on the 1600's the regulator is an in tank mounted unit. By installing the 1500 regulator and injectors it was a very simple procedure and everything went together with no modifying anything.
Perhaps other 1500's have the very same system as the 1600's and it is an direct engine swap.

thankyou again. i was going to ask you why and what the problem was. now I understand and will check about the regulators. to begin with I will assume that on a 2000 nomad, the regulators are on the fuel injectors and not on the tank

Ringadingh is correct. I have the same setup in my 02 1500 Nomad.

It is plug and play.

Just use your 1500 intake, like was sais before, and everything plugs right in.

The 1600 is ever so slightly taller and the head covers have that scallop to hide the oil lines. This will bring the rear head cover a little closer to your right thigh, but no big deal.

That is correct, like Steve mentioned, the 1500 fuel pressure regulator is mounted on the fuel rail near the injectors on the intake manifold, and on the 1600, it is incorporated into the in-tank fuel pump.

1st time poster. Nice site guys! Looked everywhere for an answer to this question. Hope you can help. Swapped an `03 VN1500 engine out for an `04 VN 1600 engine, harness and computer. One extra connector on the 1600. Round, light blue connector on the RH side of the frame. Comes from the main harness the same vacinity as the plugs for the fan, brake switch and the RH handlebar switch. Any idea what this is intended for??

I don't know if they swapped out the harness and computer. That may be why you have an extra connector. Seems that they only swapped the fuel injection from the 1500 and left everything else the same.

You messed up by swapping the harness.

The 1600 harness is different.

Put the 1500 harness and ECM back and it will be fine.

Otherwise you're going to be chasing gremlins forever.
