New Sidecar Ordered

I was going to wait until June 2013 to spring this on you all at the Rally, but I'm too hyped to wait that long. I ordered a new sidecar from Motorvation Engineering, Sibley, IA. It will be black to match BnG. It is all custom made for my bike. Check out the web site at http://www.motorvation.com/.

The options for the "Formula II" I ordered are as follows:
Chrome mounting hardware, fully upholstered including carpet, black gel coat finish, electric lean adjuster, convertible top, tonneau cover, self contained brake system, chrome front bumper, chrome rear bumper, chrome rear luggage rack, seat belt, all weather cover, power plug, whitewall tire, and a round clear headlight.

But there is a waiting list and it won't be finished and mounted until May. It looked like there were over 20 builds before me. Then I have to learn how to ride with a sidecar! It is going to be fun! And way cool!

That's a great idea Dave. I like the looks of a sidecar... Sort of nostalgic.

I have a friend whose wife has one. She likes hers and rides it all over the U.S., so hopefully you will to!

Dave. that should make a really nice outfit. Got my trailer from motorvation in Sibley Ia, Went trere to pick it up and there were alot of siecars there. Thay look better than the pic's of them. Wonder if a sidecar will drop your mileage very much.

I have a local buddy who has a Ural to go along with several other bikes. He has 2 sixty pound dumbells on the floor of the sidecar.

That looks really sharp Jim, A few years ago a guy had a sidecar on a 99 Nomad in Maggie Valley. It looked pretty good on the bike.

Ray2: I expect the mpg to drop some. But there is extra room in/on the sidecar to carry extra gas. Motorvation talked me out of getting the optional fuel tank that transferred the gas into the regular tank. This way, if one of the riders I'm riding with runs out of gas, I can also be a good Samaratin and have a jerry can to share. Also, by not buying the built-in tank, it allowed me to buy the convertable top option.

OldBiker: That is a fine looking hack. It looks as if it is built extra wide for comfort like the one I ordered. The fella who designed the one I ordered (Formula II) designed it to fit his 6'4" frame. (He has passed, but his wife Mary runs the company now.) The seat is removable and that will make the inside long enough for me to sleep in it if I want. (A side note.... I don't know if I would want to climb out of the thing at 3:30am to take a whiz on a nearby tree.)

An interesting thing about this sidecar is that the suspension has a torsion bar that can be adjusted electrically. It allows the driver to make adjustments while driving to correct for changes in road or load conditions so the sidecar doesn't pull right or push left. You can adjust it to minimize sidewinds, go full throttle up a hill, and adjusts for high crowns on the road.

The brake system is independent with a pedal that sits adjacent to the bike's rear brake pedal. You can step on them at the same time for more stopping power, but you can also sort of push down sideways to put more pressure on the sidecar brake to go around right turns easier. It's going to be an adventure to learn how to ride this rig.
