Lots of things it could be? First you said it will not go into neutral? At all? If you pull in the clutch can you get it to turn over?
Did you check the clutch lever for the wires coming out the back and make sure there seated? Check the Kill switch on the right and it is maybe not fully on or off? Switch it a few times?
You can switch it off and back on and the lights come on OK still?
Have you tried to rock the bike back and forth to put in neutral? to get the green light for it to come on?

That's the first thing off the top of my head to check right now. Let us know what you find and answer to questions above.

Good luck hope it's a simple wire or switch etc.

Scott

You might have included some information about the bike, like year, etc.

If you wiggled the wires and checked the switch like Scott said that was probably the problem. Same thing happened to me once but never again after I was cleaning it and must have hit something. it is hard to get in neutral after the engine dies . take a ride and let us know how it does. Good luck!

If the bike wasn't in first when it died, it could be difficult to get it into neutral if the engine isn't running. Did the oil pressure light come on before the bike died? If the engine isn't running and the ignition is on, the oil pressure light stays on because there is no oil pressure. I'd be inclined to look at the sidestand safety switch or the clutch safety switch to see if either is dirty, damaged, or has loose connections.

Melaw, No insult meant but if it isn't in neutral and the sidestand is down, it won't start. I once thought I had a problem with my '07 not starting. My problem was what I described above.

Good point, didn't cover that one ???

But he did say it died as he was coming into the driveway, so I assumed (yes I know) that his stand was not down. And CJ is right in that if it's not in neutral AND the sidestand is down it won't start. But it should if you pull in the clutch even if it's in gear, but as soon as the clutch is started to be release and not in neutral with the side stand down it will stall immediately.

Glad he got it running and hopefully gives no more problems.

Scott

If you come to an abrupt stop and kill it in say third gear or so. Very difficult to get it back to neutral especially with the engine not running. Might have been a wire that vibrated loose and by fooling around with the wiring you may have reconnected it. Hope you don't have any other problems.

On my '05, if the stand is down, and it is in gear, It will NOT start, even if the clutch is pulled in. The ONLY way it will start with the stand down is for it to be in neutral. This is one of the "safety" features I really like about my Nomad.

I guess my assumption was if you tried to start it in gear you'd be sitting on the bike, and most of us (assumption) would have pulled up the sidestand like we were going to ride off when we pulled in the clutch to start the bike.
I didn't think to mention that part to a Nomad owner
