Dallas Motorcycle Cop killed in accident

Quote:
I had a police friend who had been riding for one 40 years do the same thing. He hit a curb while doing a funeral run. He stayed in the hospital for months. He lost the sight and hearing on the left side from brain damage. He had to retire because of that.
I myself have been riding over 45 years and had a bad wreck a few years ago. (Wasn't my fault)
I do get a laugh out of any cop who rides bikes... they seem to think they are experts at handling a motorcycle.
I guess they are, for the most part too stupid to realize taking a motorcycle course doesn't make you an expert, it means you took a motorcycle course.
Experience and age will out do a 2 week course anytime!!
Wise man there Wompus......I have been trying to figure out how to put that into words for a while.

The motor patrolmen around here do take some serious training. It seems to mostly be in slow speed and close in maneuvering. Most of them can do u-turns and slow speed stuff that is tricky for the most of us.Of course they also spend a lot of time on the bikes. But, from the description of this crash, he was going fast and made a small mistake. Any mistake is amplified with speed.

I do get a laugh out of any cop who rides bikes... they seem to think they are experts at handling a motorcycle.
OOOO, naughty naughty. I think that is a broad generalization.
I think one of the things we have going for us is the ammount of time we spend in the saddle. It can be a blessing and a curse.
People think all we do is ride around and look pretty. They say when they see me, I look mean. They don't realize behind my shades I'm constantly assesing the situation that I am riding in. It is actually work for me. Don't get me wrong, I have the best job in the department.

Looking mean sure helps us nurses. We get the drunk/doped up folks in the ER from MVAs or bar fights who give us poor nurses attitudes when we're just trying to help them. One of you nice officers may happen to be at the ER and will walk in the room and ask them to be nice....man all of a sudden they mellow out. Look mean all you want...we know you guys...you look out for us and we look out for you. Thanks for all you do.
