new guy

Hi all, new to the site. I recently purchased a 2001 Nomad 1500FI, Love it!! She currently has about 20k on her. I have a couple concerns after reading some of the posts. 1) should I be concerned about the cam chain tensioners at 20k, or can I go awhile. 2) I noticed what looks like oil seeping from the top of the rear cylinder, right under the chrome cover and a small trail down onto the top of the rear exhaust port. Doesn't appear to be major, yet. I can turn a wrench, but very intimidated by removing the engine to get a better look. I am thinking I also need to check the cooling system hoses as I am smelling antifreeze after she warms up. Could the seepage be coolant running down the backside of the motor? Thanks for any help you'all can offer.

ok, I must be a complete moron. I did get the tank off with little drama after I figured out how the quick release worked and discovered a good bit of schmutz around the coolant hose going to the rear cylinder. Tried to tighten the clamp, but it stripped, so new clamp nice and tight. For the life of me, though I cannot locate anything feeling like a rubber cam plug anywhere around the top of the cylinder, front or back. I'm guessing the motor has to be lowered and the rocker covers removed to get to it? Maybe, I'll just live with it, if that was infact what was leaking. I think some of the oozing may have been antifreeze working its way back.

Welcome from Florida. I hope that was the source of your leak. Best of luck.
