Grrrrr....I QUIT!!!

Thanks. Since I actually woke up this AM it means I've been cold turkey for an entire week. I think the reality of the situation is finally hitting home, as it seems more difficult now that it was the first day. It's still not so bad that I'm willing to start again. Thankfully.

You have made it beyond the hardest part. One of the side affects for me was eating.Everytime I quit smoking I'd gain about 20 pounds. This time though has been different. The main thing is to just handle each craving as it comes along.I still get them from time to time,I just keep putting that next one off for a while, then the craving goes away.

Grrrrr....I QUIT!!!

I quit a 3 pack a day habit, cold turkey 26 years ago. Hardest thing I ever did. Couple of hints that helped me: when you feel the urge, take a fast, deep breath, carry around some carrot sticks to munch on (part of the habit is the physical part of doing something with your hands), cut down on the volume of food you eat and liquor you drink (these are triggers to grab a cig.), when you get the urge, think about the things you can buy with the money you are saving. Hang in there for the 45 to 60 days it takes most people to get over both the addiction and the habit. Hang in there CaddmannQ, you can do it!!

The funny thing is the liquor. When I was smoking it was very rare that I'd go home after work and have a drink. Now, I'm at it every evening. Just a shot or two, mind you; but before it was maybe once or twice a month at most, and now it's every evening.

And it's not because I'm drinking more than I want to or anything. I'm drinking the exact amount I've wanted to drink, but when I was smoking I simply couldn't do it. It literally interfered with my ability to drink. Is that wierd or what?

I never really smoked, but in my drinking days, the only thing that affected my drinking was on some occasions, I would get some bad ice. Made the drinks taste funny, and give ya a hangover. . Wasn't the whiskey. It was never bad. Bad ice will get ya every time. ;)

Cadd...great job. That's coming from a hard core smoker of 32 years. Gave it up 7+ yrs ago. Glad I did. It's not easy but it gets better a little at a time. I had to get rid of everything. I'm way to weak to have butts hanging around the house. Keep it up EX- smoker!!

Another day almost done without the smoke. You are doing great. Perhaps the drink tastes better now that the ol taste buds are coming back to life. I think that is why I always ate so much.

Good luck Caddman! It will get easier as you go... When you reach a rough spot, just think about how much this will mean to your family. My father, grandfather, and great grandfather all died before the age of 50 from smoking... The extra years with your family will make this well worth it... Plus, lots of new Nomad goodies!!

In 6 more hours it will be 10 whole days...pant-pant-pant...another milestone.

Today I thought about it every 30 minutes so far.
Not a good feeling, but so far I haven't touched one since I quit, and that makes me feel a lot better. ;)

try adding a small amount of exercise like walking that will help control the added weight from the increased eating. Hang in man.
Hey mean...good for you man.

Thanks, as soon as my cardiac rehab was over I joined a health club. Our weather here is not condusive to walking or riding a bike year round. I thought about buying a treadmill, then I thought about all the girls at the health club.Easy decision.
