Vance and Hines question

When I bought my Nomad last October, it came with a set of V&H pipes, so today I thought I would install them, but I find that I am missing the front header flange...the rear one is installed during manufacturing, but the front is one that the installer puts on...can I use the one that is on the stock pipes or do I need to find the part from V&H?

Anybody know?

Thanks!

Tim

From what I've seen, the stock part is extremely different. Mine already had the V&H's on it when I got it.

Give V&H a call and ask them to send you one. Im not sure what the oem flange looks like since I already had the V&H pipes installed.

The V&H flanges are one piece where the OEM flanges are 2 piece. It's a fairly generic looking part but I'd do what ring said and give V&H a call. The very worst they can do is tell you they won't sell you the part. eBay/Craigslist might have the part if V&H won't help.

When I installed mine, one was on a pipe and the other was loose with other parts. Check your parts bag.

They didn't come with a parts bag. The story the PO tells me is that the V&Hs were on but it gave the Power Commander a bad time so he went back to the stock mufflers. I expected to find a power commander, but it is not on the bike, so I don't know about the pipes being on in the past. The rear pipe has the flange on it and the front header pipe you install the flange yourself, as per the installation instructions (which I downloaded from V&H website).

I will call Vance and Hines tomorrow, but I wondered if the stock flange could be used with the V&H pipe so I could go ahead with the swap...

Just talked to V&H and found out the stock flange will not work, but "give me your address and I will send you one free of charge!"

I am now in the waiting mode, but at least my scoot is still together.

Got the flange (thanks, Vance and Hines!), then made a few discoveries...Monkeyman is correct, the OEM flanges are two piece but when my stock pipes were put back on they didn't have the OEM front flange, so they rigged the front pipe with the V&H flange and the front pipe had an exhaust leak, the rear had a bad gasket and it looked like it had been leaking, too. Got the V&Hs on now and the old gaskets REALLY leak...sounds good, however! Called the local Kaw dealer - no gaskets but I did order some (the parts guy tells me they come in sets of 4 - ??) and they will be here next week.

Getting ready for riding weather!

Harley gaskets work on the Nomads and most HD always carry them for about $8.00 a pair. The p/n is listed in our Tech section here.

The Kaw gaskets should come individually. Good luck.

I had heard that the Harley gaskets fit but didn't look into it before ordering - thanks for the hint. The Harley shop is a block away from the Kawasaki dealer I called. They have my money now, so I'll wait. They were about 8 bux...I will be better armed next time!

It appears the dealer had to buy 4 of them - dunno why - but I'm just getting 2. I was surprised they didn't have any in stock. If the order is wrong or whatever, I will hoof it over to HD.

Hopefully you won't have to purchase all 4 pcs.
