Nomad in Ohio
New, proud owner of a 2000 Nomad 1500 carbed model. Moved up from a 1996 Honda Shadow ACE 1100 I had put 46,000 miles on in the last 6 years. I'm a little guy (5'10, 155 lbs.) and was afraid of the weight and mass of the much heavier Nomad. I'd ridden some of my buddies' H.D.'s short distances (test rides) and liked the ride, but was somewhat intimidated when moving them around in driveways and such. When I first mounted the Nomad and pushed it forward and back I was pleasantly surprised, heck, downright shocked!! The extra 140 pounds or so of dry weight hardly seemed noticeable to me!! When I turned the handlebars to the left and right extremes I was also happy to find that less effort was needed to turn the wide front tire of the Nomad then the somewhat narrower front tire of the Shadow. The bike was in a garage, and had an awesome factory engine tone while it was idling. This bike is a 2000, but only has 2500 miles on it. The officer I bought it off of had all fluids checked, plugs changed, brake fluid replaced, ect. He had only owned it for about 9 months. Even though this owner lived within 4 minutes of my home, the bike was currently on e bay, which was where I found it...ugh. It was all factory, except for the Fire and Ice backrest, and brand new light bar, which this owner newly installed. Being an untouched bike is always a big plus for me when buying a used bike!! It is all black in color. I'd say the overall condition is 1/2 way tween good to excellent, with minor pitting on some of the aluminum components such as floorboard edges and resevoir housings. I bought the bike off e bay for 200 less than my "max bid", which I was happy about. Because of the low, low miles (2500) I paid 1000 more than the price NADA gave on the bike, but felt like I somehow stole it, since the manufacturers list when it was new was over 12k!! When I picked it up a few days later I could not believe the huge difference between the Nomad and the ACE!! The smoothness brought a smile to my face that is still on it. Supposedly, the older 1100 ACE's were made to mimic the H.D. vibrating and sound. Let me tell you, they hit the vibrating part right on!! At the higher freeway speeds, that 1100 sent heavy vibrations through both the handlebars and floorboards. After a short hour, it would start taking a toll on my hands and legs. This 1500 cc motor and smooth ride was just what I was searching for!! Now, I am a mod "do it yourselfer" and will have about 1000 questions for all you seasoned Kaw owners!! I've been on Gadgets' Kaw Site and have seen some great stuff. Now I'll be cruizin around in here all winter, pickin at your Kaw ownin minds!! I'm going now to post 50 or so of my questions. Thanks for reading this, and sorry for the long/windedness... jim from Ohio

Welcome to the group Jim! Another Ohio guy myself, where in the Buckeye State are you located? Congrats on the new to you Nomad! Had a 99 for several years myself before trading up to an 06 model. This is a fantastic place to get all your questions answered. The Honda is a nice bike for sure, but most of us around here believe that Kaw obtainmed motorcycle perfection with the 1500/1600 Nomad. Enjoy the beautiful Ohio autumn on your new bike, winter seems to be coming quick! Jeff
