We teach that "traffic making a left hand turn from the opposite direction" is the leading cause of motorcycle accidents and injuries or deaths. (After excessive speed and daredevil riding) It IS possible to forensically examine the turn signal BULBS to see if the opposing traffic had indicated a turn across the lane. Often there was no signal displayed. It is much more difficult to do so with LEDs.

Equally as often the motorcycle was either not in the left third of their lane OR was running with only a single headlight. I will never ride a motorcycle with only a single front facing light and I don't like to ride behind others that run a single light.

Third most frequent factor is an accident occurring near dusk when one of the operators has eyesight impaired by a setting sun.

By this time of the season I would hope that everyone has made at least one visit to a vacant parking lot to practice swerve and avoid and covering the controls to enae a faster response in the face of traffic dangers.

Not trying to place blame or judgement on those killed or the other driver. Just saying that we all have to be aware at every moment of the ride of dangers present and how our habits and equipment may minimize the risk of motorcycling.

Prayers offered for the children and family of those who died.

Am saddened by this. Hope they knew the Lord. I was off a bike for 20 years. After driving big truck for a year, I decided to get another bike. Same difference...drive defensively, watch out for idiots. Got completely run off road by a car that made a u turn and took two lanes including mine. Just another day on a motorcycle. Risk...we can be wiped out in our car too. So...we just drive defensively and watch out for idiots. Same as driving a big rig.

Just had 2 killed last weekend in Prince Edward County just south of us. Group of 8 Canadian Army Veterans out for a ride after a rally and an 83 yr old crosses the line and hits the first 2. Third guy went to hospital along with the 2 in the car. The driver of the car died yesterday. I don't think they had much of a chance to do anything in the way of defensive driving. Very sad outcome in what I'm sure was a great day for them at the rally.

Too idiots are on the roads also here in Italy and too bikers are killed every year by these criminals.
Many of them drive under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or using the phone or texting or are just damn stupid.
We must drive defensively, carefully and cautiously (not always only motorists make mistakes) but unfortunately sometimes that's not enough.

Mate.I've driven in Italy and it's manic, especially in the cities, constant sound of a thousand horn's beeping, car's & bike's coming at you from all angle's,nobody seem's to give a shit about the next bloke,it's just get in where you can,and the italian's still talk with their hand's even when they are driving.Almost every car in Rome has at least one dent in it
