New Ticking Sound, HELP!!

Been riding the bike to work this week and have noticed a ticking noise from the engine at start ups and also when I gas on it. Almost sounds like something is vibrating. Got the UPS mechanic to look and he said it was coming from the engine, any clues to what it could be?? Got 7500 miles on her!!

New Ticking Sound, HELP!!

It sounds like the noise I get from my radiator cover. I have tried different washers and bolts but at certain engine speeds it still vibrates and makes noise. Also, I have had a heat shield work loose on the exhaust and sound similar. Could even be coming from the gas tank cowl or headlight. All of those places can make strange noises if a bolt or screw happens to be a little loose. Just things I have had, and friends as well. I hope it is something simple .

Flash, it's really hard to tell without hearing it myself. Is the bike vibrating more than normal or more than it did in the past? Not just the sound but the grips and or seat or floorboards?

New Ticking Sound, HELP!!

This may not be the problem at all, but I used to have a vibration noise that would come and go as I thottled. I originally thought it was coming from the front of the bike......radiator area or something like that.

After checking thoroughly, I found it to be coming from the headlight bucket. Seems there is a connector that Kawasaki uses to hold all the wiring together that snaps into the metal light bucket on the inside. The connector is made of hard plastic and vibrates against the bucket.

I took the connector out and replaced with a wide band of velcroe.

I had the same problem and solved it by putting foam insulation around the inside of the radiator cowl. I used 3/8" self adhering.

New Ticking Sound, HELP!!

flash,

For some reason, at around that mileage I started hearing my ICS ticking noise a little more. Happened several times..then went away. Take off your right side intake cover and start it up and see if that is the ticking that you are hearing. On the bike riding, it originally sounded like my noise was coming from under the tank. They usually tick at start up and then when you decelerate but once I am sitting at an idle for a while, mine would quieten down.

Hope that's all it is......

There is the distinct ticking sound that you hear from the FI on the 1600, maybe 1500's too, but I thought that it was always there on all Kawa FI bikes. Maybe yours just started or you just noticed it. Or, perhaps you recognize it as being something definitely different than the FI.

I have some annoying metallic "rattling" noise when I start out from a stop and sometimes while accelerating. Pretty sure it's coming from the headlight bucket. I know it's not engine noise. I'll open up the headlight bucket and poke around.

New Ticking Sound, HELP!!

Dont now if this will help, but last week while looking over the bike I found the wire bracket that holds the LH air cleaner onto the cylinders cracked at one end and was making a buzzing noise at certain speeds. Its fastened with two 8mm bolts. A quick touch with the welder had it fixed in a jiffy.
