Turn signal prob

06 Nomad, R turn signal front and rear comes on as does the indicator light on the speedo. Switch us in off position. Turn switch to R or L both work. Turn switch off and R rear blinks erratically. R front seems brighter than left. All bulbs work no visible shorts/rust in signal housing and I have switched to a new bulbs and fuse. No diff. Any ideas where to start?

Dirty switch? I prefer to take them apart, clean, and lube/protect with some dielectric grease. Others just spray some WD-40 or maybe contact cleaner in them.

A dirty switch would not cause the R front to be brighter than the L would it?

Could. Electricity can do some weird things.

If switch is dirty could cause low voltage to left making it dim. Along with shorting across to right Rear making it erratic.

There is a connection under the seat that splits out to the rear lights I would check that and the wiring going back to the lights that up in the fender.

Tracing shorts and erratic wiring issues can be time consuming.

Sorry spoke too soon, I am still playing detective. The relay that works my rear turn signal was not working, played around and moved it a bit and it started working fine. Replaced relay and now not working. I HATE electrical stuff. Also cleaned the switch and found out I have a leak at my clutch reservoir, the boot has a hole in it. Plus I have an oil leak that I am trying to find the source of. If it ain’t one thing its two...

Greetings,
Electrical is FUN (exasperating, challenging, frustrating) when you figure it out. So you played with it and it started working. Then replaced it and it stopped (again)?
Was the fluid from the clutch reservoir getting onto/into the wiring harness? Might be time for continuity checks on the switch wires. Also, might want to open up and inspect the harness if it got wet...

???
Ride safe,
Smokier

As Sabre T suggested I took my switch housing apart and wiped it out some and cleaned my turn signal switch and lubed it. After I got it back together and was poking around that’s when I noticed the tear in the boot and I figured out that that is why the hydraulic fluid in the clutch was much darker than in the brake. Bought a rebuild kit for the reservoir and will replace all the internals. Plan to reopen the switch housing for the turn signal and see if I can do a better job of cleaning and lubing/protecting what’s in there. Hope to not have to take the switch itself apart. Tried to do some testing with my meter and found out that I had left it on and now need batteries for it. Of course the batteries that I have on hand are not the correct ones, it needs the button/coin looking ones. If it ain’t one thing...

The reservoir boot may have had a hole in it that made the clutch fluid turn even darker than usual, but you can expect the clutch fluid to get darker, faster than brake fluid and have black particles in it, anyway.
