Not here. We're on something called the New Madrid Fault though.

Might find this interesting..... Reelfoot Lake here in West TN was formed years ago by an earthquake that made the Mississippi River flow backwards.

I didn't feel the earthquake or the aftershock. I was sleeping then driving around. But it was all over the radio saying that people in Madison Wisconsin could feel it!! I am not sorry that i missed it. There is a fault line that supposedly runs up from the right side of Illinois through Milwaukee Wisconsin then branches off.

Did anyone feel the earthquake today???

Here's another Reelfoot lake. This is a cabin me and some riding buddies rented. No...I'm not in the pic (taking it) but my nomad is..(behind the picnic table). The lady in the pink top hair was just growing back from chemo and mastectomy. The lady in the front with do-rag on just found out going to have to go thru chemo. :'( She is doing good though...a real trooper.

Did anyone feel the earthquake today???

Aside from any injuries and damage, I find it quite amusing that these folks got to feel an earthquake! After so many years hearing what they say about California's quakes and what folks think about it, I guess now they'll have to come up with another reason to bash California :) ;)

That New Madrid is really the grandaddy of North american fault lines, and is just a partially-healed rift where the continent tried to tear in half millions of years ago, and didn't quite make it.

When people back east wonder about the earthquakes out here in California, they should consider that the big quake on New Madrid in 1812 was worse than anything we've had out here in recorded history.

The Quake that formed Reelfoot lake rang churchbells in New York and Boston. That's a long, long way. From New Madrid to Boston is over 1000 miles.

By comparison, the Northridge quake was barely felt here in Fresno, which is only 200 miles away. We had a little bump and nothing more.

People worry that if the San Andreas fault opened up that the California coast could split off into the ocean. This is fantasy, as the action is a sliding rather than a ripping one. The coast isn't dropping. Over millions of years it will eventually slide away towards Alaska (they say.) There will, of course, be regular quakes along the way. Some will be bad for sure.

OTOH, if the New Madrid opened up it could split the continent from the great lakes to the Gulf of Mexico. Potential damage to the Eastern seaboard is uncalcuable, but I think more than churchbells would ring.

Fortunately, chances of an event like that in our lifetimes is about zero.

Nothing here in south central Ohio. We would probably have thought it was the buckeyes offensive line in a spring practice. We may not be fast, but we are big!! LOL

The New Madrid is the big one and has occasional mild quakes, as CQ says it is quite stable. Although this sounds like one of the biggest for some time. I grew up in Iowa and felt two in 18 years there.
