North Central Group; April riding

I took a 250+ mile ride yesterday, taking a familiar backroad loop up into Wisconsin's unglaciated area's bluffs through Spring Green and over to Sauk City and back. Most of these roads are great twisted roads to ride and help re-sharpen the skills a bit after getting rusty over the winter months.

Didn't get started until after lunch so I had to cut it a bit short so I could get back before the sunset (when deer begin to move randomly across the backroads ).

Typically, around here I do not get to take too many rides of this length in early to mid April due to the weather and road conditions from the winter; but yesterday's weather was exceptionally good for a long ride; and most of the roads appeared clean. I couldn't pass-up the opportunity.

Rayski texted me while I was out; asking about the tornadoes we just had here in my part of Illinois. He hasn't picked-up his new bike yet. Instead, he was in Tennessee satiating his golf addiction. I assume he will pick-up the new bike within a few weeks and we'll see him out and about again.

Hope others in the NCR were able to get out. Around here I would say we are officially back in the business of riding again...

Happy you were able to get out Greg. I was able to get out yesterday for about 220 miles and again today for about 280 miles.
Hit a lot of twisted roads in southeast MN and western WI. Lots of sand on some roads, especially in the valleys where the wind doesn't blow it off. Came within a few feet of hitting a very large Tom Turkey this morning, he was flying head high when I blew by him doing about 75 mph. Big time pucker moment.

I am afraid we'll meet-up with one of those someday. They can be frightening when they take-off, since they cannot fly well... Only straight ahead at their full-speed.

As mentioned, backroads up to Spring Green and east to Sauk City were surprisingly clean and clear.

I hope the weather keeps-up this trend for April and on into May...

Ride safe Mike!

The roads in this area got washed off pretty well with the storms on Wed/Thur last week. Last weekend some roads were still white with salt.

Road crews are starting to get some of the pothole patching done too. Plenty of holes big enough to catch a wheel are out there yet.

I have only been out for a few hours total so far. This week should be much better though.

Greg - one of my favorite stops in Spring Green is Prem's Meats, right on hwy 14. It's where I like to pick up some sausage sticks and other snacks for a day ride. I generally don't stop long enough to order food when I'm riding solo.

Guess I've never noticed it before. I'll stop the next time through though... I assume it is on the left as I head west on 14.
