If someone is a dirt bag trying to scam people, what's stopping him from opening additional accounts and give themselves positive ratings?

Also, if you someone rubs you the wrong way, can you just give them negative rating because you don't like them.

Weird, it's not showing up in my feedback. :(

Nothing is stopping them, but this is one more measure of prevention, and that definitely can't hurt. But just think of all the trouble they would have to go through just for that one scam. Make multiple accounts (most likely we'd catch them doing that anyway), start multiple for sale threads over a period of time, reply to them with other accounts (that have more than a couple posts), etc, etc, etc. You still have to use common sense. If a guy has feedback by only a few people, or only certain people, and all his posts are in the For Sale forum with very little postings anywhere else, then you can get a good idea of what's going on.

Again, every little bit helps.. you still need half a brain though.

I am assuming if someone gets a bad rating, there is a process by which they can have this corrected. Right?

I have to agree with some of the others... this seems a bit strange to go to this length to bust people. I may be wrong, but I don't know there are that many people that have been entirely screwed by any else on this board.

Most times it is just a misunderstanding that gets corrected or is just a situation where one party is ticked off; but didn't lose any money.

Of course. But I would hope people won't leave negative feedback unless all means of correcting the problem were exhausted.

Bust people? Well I guess if you do screw someone over, yea, it should be made public so it doesn't happen to others. And what length exactly? Again, If you wanna use it, use it.. if not, don't.

Probably not. This is mostly used to make new members feel 'more comfortable' dealing with existing members that they really don't know, which of course gives the seller more potential buyers also.

I think you guys are over-thinking this a bit. Do you complain this much to eBay for them implementing a feedback system?

Mike, you have to realize by now that every time you change or add something on this forum you are going to hear about it, one way or another

A site where the whole purpose it to sell/buy, where millions of items a day are sold and a forum that assist in selling maybe 5 items a month.

Perhaps the person who made the change is over thinking it.

No offense Mike. but this site is not Ebay first of all.

Secondly, many have dealt with each other buying, selling, and trading among members on this site and others for a fairly long time without too many, if any, incidences -- thus the question as to why all of a sudden the rating-system.

I can see if there had been a rash of bad situations (and there may have been); but I haven't seen that.

Overall, it doesn't matter to me. I was merely making an inquiry and statement about it.

So... let the ratings begin!
