Considering purchase of Nomad

I am considering buying a 2003 Nomad form a dealer. He has agreed to the proce of 6500. the bike has 24000 miles and appears to be in excellent condition.
I have a Vulcan 900 now and have it for sale. I really want the power of the 1500.
Perhaps some would know if this is a good deal...
are there quirks or history issues with the 03 model...
I am not a mechanic so I am not able to spot problems just by looking at the bike. Are there some things I should look for right off.
The previous owner is available and willing to tell me about the bike.
Add ons:
Vance & hines, Accessory light bar, Mustang seat and two up original seat, and a few minor things.
this is the site for the bike, but you cant really see anything.

I really do like the Nomad but dont need a good deal on a bad bike.
Thanks for you help

Welcome to the board. I don't know of any real issues with the '03.

welcome to the site, I have the 03 and have had .0. problems with mine it has right at 24,000 miles its the same color as the one you are looking at, the nomad is the best bike I have ever owned I know you will enjoy it. Kelly blue book for a good condition 03 is $6,992.00 retail,I would see if he would come down most will.
ride safe.

As DJ said, it's a great bike with "0" issues...

Personally the price high for an '03. With the economy being what it is I think you can do better on that bike or get a later model for the same dollars...IMO...

Welcome to the forum. We love our bikes.. :)

I bought my '04 1500FI (Fuel Injected) in '06 for $7,800. It was in pristine condition and had only a couple thousand miles on it. My bike has no "extras" on it -- however -- despite most people's thoughts... it appears that "extras" don't help increase the value of the bike as much as some may think.

So... you are looking at a bike with considerable more miles on it; and is one-year older. I might agree with Joe... you might be able to bargain the price down a bit further yet. Worth a try.

I bought my '08 Nomad for $10,700. You can probably still find left-overs in that price range, if you'd feel more comfortable with a new bike.

I will say that the Nomad is a terrific bike and, unless you're really odd, you should enjoy the heck out of it!

I moved up from a Suzuki C50 (800cc) for probably the same reasons that you want to move up.

The Nomad is very comfortable on the open road.

mdgeorge, welcome and hope you decide to join us.

Just to give you another price to compare, there's a pretty much stock 2006 Nomad at local motorcycle shop, on consignment, with less than 9,000 miles for $7,000.
I suspect it could be bought for less.

Oh well, Thanks anyway.
Here is my gut feeling on this bike.
I have talked with the previous owner and I am very comfortable that the bike is in good mechanical shape. ( which is probably my biggest apprehention in buying a used bike). If they will sell it to me for 6500, out the door I may get it. Right now it is 6500 + tax, etc

What do you think?

What do I think.......if it was me, and I could find a new 08 for under 11K out the door......I would go with it. That being said, if you are comfortable with the bike you are considering, and can get for 6K, sounds fair.

There are a few on ebay like this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Motorcycl....parms=7 2%3A317|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318

I'd offer them $8,000 out the door. Times are tough, you never know...

I just talked to the dealer, he has said 6600 out the door. He will do a complete service including oil change.

Now, there is a second one I have found. 2005, 21500 miles. He want $6000. But the owner has dropped it several times and even put it down two weeks ago. He said it is too heavy for him. He is 5'8" and weighs 150. He has a hard time handling the bike in slow manuevers
This brings up another question. I am 5'9" weigh 170. Am I going to have problems. I have always found that its about balance, not weight.
Is the bike difficult to handle at slow speeds?
