Check CC laws before heading out

For those of you with CC permits remember to check which states honor your permit. So far as I can tell the only one I need to be concerned with is Illinois. Can we kick them out of the pool?

I've already checked, Bud. I know my permit is accepted in every state I am traveling through. That's NM, TX, LA, MS, AL, TN, SC, AR, and OK.

Here is a good multi-state CC travel planner if you have not already found one.

Now, if u traveling through a state that doesn't accept ur CC, you can in some cases open carry or at the worst, carry the clip in say the tank bib and the handgun in the saddlebag. Is that correct?

I would say it depends on the state law. Better to check directly with that state before you get into trouble. Some states require everything to locked seperately (like glove box and trunk).

Federal Firearms Transportation Statute
The federal firearms transportation statute basically states that you are allowed to transport a legally owned firearm through any state as long as you meet the following requirements.

1. Your weapon is kept unloaded and stored in a separate compartment not readily accessible by either the driver or passengers.

2. Any ammunition is kept separate from location of firearms and is also not readily accessible by either the driver or passengers.

If there is not a separate compartment available in the vehicle then the firearm must be kept in a locked container and stored somewhere other than the glove box or console.

through any state, that is the key.
The travler must simply be passing through the state and must be bound for a jurisdiction where possession of such wepons is legal. Any extended stops for reasons other than gas or emergency services would effectivly nullify the travlers interstate commerce classification and subject him to the effects of state law.

Unfortunately, that does not help the majority of us.

Do you have an opinion on citizens getting a CC permit?

As a citizen in good standing, do you need a "permit" to exercise any of your other "rights" found in the Bill of Rights? The answer - Not only "no" but hell no! (Sir can I see your permit to go to church? Sir, can I see your permit to speak freely? Sir can I see your permit to demonstrate peacefully? Sir, you need a permit to stop me from putting troops in your house.)

A "right" is not a "right" when you have to ask for permission.

And that's why our local sheriff will give CC's to anyone in good standing

So sounds like you'd have to keep the clip and handgun in opposite hard bags cause the tank bib would be easily accessible. Though do the hard bags count as a "locked container"? Lol, I don't think I'd try and push the limits of that one, but just curious
