Opportunity is pounding on my door....New Voyager??

I took the wife out for breakfast on the bike today and just for grins we stopped into Smokey Point Cycle Barn. As much as I love my Nomad, it's getting a little long in the tooth....and I have been thinking a bit about my next ride. Most likely a Voyager, although there are some things I know I would miss about my Nomad (trunk size, etc.).

Anyways....I start talking with a saleman telling him I am just looking, which I was, but before you know it he has me about ready to pull the trigger on a new bike....like RIGHT NOW!

We are Costco members...and Kawasaki has discount pricing for members on most new models, including the 2012 Voyager. What it amounts to is a waiving of fees from MaKaw and a few other things. Without the discount, the out-the-door price would be around $20,500, including fees, taxes and licensing. The Costco out-the-door price is $18,500....2k cheaper, but many folks don't even know that is available...and the dealership is not going to tell you. I asked....and it is applicable to a new 2012 Voyager.

Here is where things really turned. We started talking trade-in value for my '08 Nomad....which I figured would be crap since I have 53k+ on the bike now. They gave me a standing offer of $6500.00 for my bike as is...even with the mileage! Even if I took off my Premeux trunk and Mustang seat and sold them seperately...I might get $1000.00 between them, which means I would still have to get $5500.00 for my high mileage Nomad from a private sale to even match their offer. Plus...trading it as-is would eliminate all hassles of having to deal with private sales. I figured they would low-ball me for about $4500.00 in trade....but when he said $6500.00....that really made things interesting.

Soooo.....$18,500 (OTD)....minus $6500 leaves $12,000. I could toss in about $4000 cash....leaving a balance of around $8000.00 to finance.

These are the only two color choices....and I'm not too sure I really like either one. The white/gold is kind of unique, and was my first glance choice.....but black and grey is cool too....although I don't at all care for the red pin-striping on that model, which you can't see in the photo. They have one of each. I told the guy I would get back to him next week....and am mulling over my options. I truly do love my Nomad, but cruise control, more power and an extra gear would be pretty handy on my long travels, I must admit. I still don't care for those saddlebags....and with my luck, the 2013 models will have the old side-openers ala the Vaquero.....

I'm also thinking of waiting for the 2013 models to come out, but I may not get as good a trade-in on my current bike....in fact I'm pretty sure I would not as I would have even more miles on it by then...

What to do....what to do.....
