Air Shock Balance Kit - Just installed

Aloha Ya'll, I just finished installing the rear Air Shock Balance as described on Gadget's page. I purchased all the parts on line from Power Aire, link on Gadgets page, for a total of $31 including shipping. This does not include the PS_AFB_1 Air Fork Balance kit which I purchased from Cruiser Customizing for another $31 including shipping. Shipping kills me!

Any way I HIGHLY recommend everyone do this. It's very simple and makes adjusting the shocks extremely easy. I added a 0-60 psi small, 7/8", presure gage also from Power Aire and included in cost above. Now I always know how much air is in the shocks, they are both aired the same and can easily adjust them.

The most expensive part was the tubing, I had to buy 100' and only needed about 3'. So heres the deal, anyone who wants to put this kit on your ride send me a PM with your mailing address and I'll cut off about 4' of tubing and mail it to you for FREE. Yes, I said free for the asking. It's black 1/8" polyurethane tubing, I paid $15 for the 100' but I have no use for the extra.

First come first served, get it while it last.

Hey, very kind offer to supply us with tube.
You probably already know this but it's worth commenting, the air bladders in our rear shock are very very small. That means very very high pressures can be achieved very very quickly. And the bladders DO NOT handle high pressures well. I've not heard of a "repair method" for a blown bladder either.
Lots of different methods have been posted on how people avoid over inflation. I use a portable 10 gallon air tank (like the ones you can buy at Walmat for $25) I fill the tank to 35 lbs psi with my air compressor then fill both shocks from the air tank letting the bladder of each shock and tank equalize. The bladders are so small that my tank is still at 35 psi after I have done both shocks. Checking the tanks pressure confirms that the shocks are at 35 psi. I don't like to check the shocks cause experimenting with my dial guage showed me that the bladders are so small that a "check" will drop pressure in bladder about 3lbs.

Geeze, if I would have known, I just got back from Hawaii a week ago--spent 10 great days there. It's so kind of you to share with the group.

When I had air shocks I ran 22psi. I filled them with a hand pump.

An air shock pump handles adjusting the Nomad shocks nicely - it screws on, measures very exactly, doesn't lose any air - and it won't blow out your air shocks. About $30 online

Very cool!

Is the main benifit of this modification, is to allow you to always know how much air is in your shocks at all times?

Yes, that's exactly what this Mod is for. To allow both shocks to be adjusted equaly and at the same time.

The main benefit is that both shocks will always have the same (common) pressure. If the seal leaks on one, they both bleed down evenly, maintaining a stable handling bike in turns, over rough sections, etc.
