D'oh! I hate when this happens!

Moped-riding man runs into light rail crossing arm
by Clarissa Dodge - Oct. 6, 2008 12:30 PM
The Arizona Republic

A man on a moped ran into an activated Metro Light Rail system crossing arm as it was being tested at about 1 a.m. Monday, according to Tempe police.

The man was going eastbound on University Drive when he failed to stop at the arm that was in the down position with flashing lights, according to police.

The man fell off the motorcycle and sustained non-life threatening injuries. Alcohol is considered to be a factor and the incident is still under investigation, police said.

A spokeswoman with Metro advises people to obey all traffic signals, use crosswalks properly and stay off the tracks.

"We have been working diligently to share safety tips with the Valley," Hillary Fosse, a spokeswoman with the Metro Light Rail, said.

Testing on the light rail and equipment will continue extensively throughout November and December, Foose said.

Metro is expected to open at the end of December.

I'm sorry he got hurt, but it's hard not to snicker.
It just sounds like a scene from one of the National Lampoon Vacation movies.

They are in the process of building our first light-rail line, and it's pretty much complete. They are just testing the line, coordinating the signals, etc. The line crosses University Ave on the ASU campus, so it's probably a safe assumption this was a student riding back to his dorm room on his moped, had a few too many and got surprised by a crossing arm.

Alcohol is considered to be a factor

Just another example of mixing alcohol and motorcycles ::)
