Pair Valve

Does '08 Nomad have pair valve (CA model)? If so can/should it be disconnected and how?

Thanks

Ken

Pair Valve

I live in NH USA, and never heard this term. Is there any other name? I haven't seen it in the book either.

Pair Valve

...I was curious about this so I found this bit of info about it. It appears like it performs a similar function to the reed valves on our bikes....

The Pair Valve is a pollution control "Pulsed Air Injection" device, designed to "wash out" the purposely rich exhaust of the new metric bikes in order to pass EPA restrictions for import in the United States and other countries with similar restrictions. Many foreign designated models do not even come with a pair valve, although all other aspects of the bike's engine are the same. (The triangular (or oval) box is a tool box on most foreign models)

The sole purpose for the Pair Valve is to passively "Inject" fresh air into the exhaust system at the exhaust port, to cause ignition of unburned fuel vapor *before* it leaves the exhaust pipes, or to thin out the mixture with enough air to fool the sniffer machines. Unburned fuel vapors enter the exhaust system whenever you back off the throttle, or gear down. When you close the throttle, as in gearing down or slowing down, the drop in vacuum at the intake port allows the Pair Valve to relax and open and allow air from the air filter box to be "siphoned" into the exhaust port by the negative pressure at the exhaust ports. (there are reed valves in the pair valve to prevent backflow from the exhaust to enter the pair valve and airbox during roll-on and subsequent positive exhaust port pressure).

Pair Valve

My 2005 C50T had a pair valve. It mounted in the area where our left side air filter assembly is. I know that de-PAIRing a Suzuki is a popular mod.

Me too, as i said I never heard the term. lomax has a grip on it, and we do yank reed valves often. gadjets site has all the info on how to do so and why.

Pair Valve

Isn't that the same thing as the hose that leads from the backing plate on the injectors to the exhaust that we marble sometimes??

Yes. I had C90T and needed to plug pair valve in order to eliminate popping from after market exhaust.

Another question: What's the stuff under the right-side round cover -- I thought was pair valve?

Yes BD, it is similar in function.. I have never seen it with my eyes, but from what I read it is the same idea. On a car which I know you will know we called it EGR, only this adds fresh air to the exhaust, instead of recirculate exhaust into the intake. Bassakwards but more or less the same function.

These days every one has a different word for everything.. The only pair of anything that counts to me is either in a holster, or on my wife's chest. Come to think of it, she has those holstered too.
