engine coolant

Is it okay to use dexcool GM) 50-50 coolant in the nomad. I know it's a different color. Other than that can i add it to the factory
coolant? It does have the recommended additives required for rust and aluminum engines.

Personally (I know there are others who will argue with me on this), I won't use Prestone, Zerex, Peak, or any other automotive-type coolant until I see my dealer selling selling it. I recommend either the Kawasaki brand "AlumaCool" which you have to mix 50:50 with distilled water, or "Coolanol", which is a premixed solution designed for motorcycle cooling systems. The extra few bucks you save using an automotive brand isn't worth the potential trouble, in my opinion. I don't like using dexcool in my Pontiac, FWIW.

I don't know. is it 100% SILICATE FREE? For the measeley 2.5 qts there is drop a dime and be safe.. I go with Honda Cool which was last I knew about 5 bucks a qt...

If you go with something else be sure it is 100% SILICATE FREE. If it isn't you will be doing a water pump and seal pretty soon, and if you miss the timing by toouch you will be doing the inner engine oil water pump shaft seal too, and I understand that is a ROYAL Pain.

Honda makes a premixed coolant, which I have used before. Good stuff. The reason being that the automotive coolants have silicone in them and that may damage the engine and cooling system. It would be like putting sand in your radiator. I agree with CJ.

I'm at a loss for words??? I'm not buying my milk from anyplace but a dairy!!! don't want no phoney Ralphs cows not giving me the real thing?

Ethylend and/or propylene glycol is used in 99.9% of ALL antifreeze available for sale today. It's chemical composition is controlled by the FDA. Any antifreeze that is safe for aluminum is close enough to be branded as "Kawasaki" antifreeze.

Ethylene is the poisonous version and Propylene is the environmental friendly version (I use this)..

There is a 3rd called Organic Acid Technology (OAT) Branded as "DEX-COOL".. You can tell by the color. Usually a redish pink solution. Which is FDA controlled to show that it's Glycol based coolants which are blue or green.

BD, all I'm saying is when motorcycle shops start selling Prestone, then I'll consider using it in my bike. We don't use a lot of the motor oil on the market because it isn't compatible with our wet clutches. Motorcycle parts and labor are so outrageously expensive, I am not going to gamble a potentially expensive repair over a couple of bucks price difference on a jug of coolant.

Next thing you are going to tell me is that it's okay to install a car tire on a motorcycle. ::)

well guys believe what you will or can afford. i changed out after 3 yrs to PRESTONE YES PRESTONE 50/50. And as BD has said it works FINE. its silca, phospahte, and everything else free so safe in all engines. i have had NO problems in 1 yr of use. if you want to blow your $$ on motorcycle specific coolant go right ahead, they will take your money. For me i will use this and we all use non-motorcycle oil in our bikes and dont bat an eye because out friend joe-blow uses it. Same difference. Like BD said when pigs fly. Good night. :-)

See Doc - that's what's great about America. You can use your 50:50 Prestone, BD can fill his cooling system with milk from a dairy, and I can use the motorcycle-specific stuff AND we can all get along. I didn't say anybody else shouldn't use automotive coolant, I was just saying what I use and why.

Big group hug now! Kumbaya....
