MPG POLL
Please vote on this poll for your average MPG.
I know there are many factors that can effect mpg like terrain, wind, certain mods and rider habits. But it would be nice to see a lot of averages all on one page. Some of you guys get some really good MPG on a Nomad. I must have some really bad riding habits......There is no way I can get what some of you are getting in past post. Share your secret if you have super good milage (over 40mpg) Thanks

93 octane fuel all the time. Six ounces of sea foam in a full tank every three thousand miles. Gives me forty two mpg all day long.

I don't really know the secret other than I don't get on it too much. Cruise a steady 72 indicated. I also run 85 octane here in Colorado. No ping.

MPG POLL
I have a 2000 Nomad Fi 1500cc, with V&H Dual baggers, Hyper Charger... & NO power Commander. I just went on a 2552 mile ride to New Mexico. I live in IL. I get 40mpg, but when I was in the mountains I got 47 mpg. I was only gone 5 days... I always run 89 or above octane, average speeds of 72mph.

I've owned my Nomad for three weeks now, and I've got just over 1000 miles on it. Riding alone, I average about 41 mpg. We have a lot of open prairie highways that I cruise a lot here in ND, so that is my usual terrain. I usually ride about 70 mph (as indicated on the speedometer, not modified.) When my wife rides with me, my average drops to about 36 mpg. So far, I've been very pleased with my mpg, especially for as big a bike as the Nomad is.

I don't do anything special, I use 87 octane regular gas, and keep it under 75mph most times. I use Seafoam about 3-4 times a season in the gas. Clean the throttle body with carb cleaner spray once a season.

I commute 55 miles round trip on California freeways 100% during the week. I try to keep the bike between 65 & 75 mph, & always get 40-43 mpg depending on how hard I accelerate in traffic. I have been up over 45 mpg on two occasions, both were on fun runs, at slower speeds...............-Rich

MPG POLL
I ride a lot in the "city"...so my milage isn't as good as when I get out on the open road. I pull roughly 38-41 mpg in the city. On the highway...I pull mid to high 40s easy!!
I run 93 octane or better all the time and also run some seafoam in every 2-3 thousand miles. It might just be me, but what I see playing with my fuel economy the most, is heat. My Nomad sure runs better in the cooler air of the morning.... once things heat up, she seems to run through the gas quicker.... not to mention wanting to ping a little. Sounds like a midget w/ a hammer in there listening to Metallica!!! LOL! |

I normally get 30-32 in CITY only with lots of waiting at lights, etc. best hwy only was 42 mpg. one thing I agree with was what Jussmatt said cooler air. i put a K&N filter on the left and it runs tons cooler now therefore mpg has went up quite a bit also fan doesnt kick on all the time like before. if you feed it cooler air and more of it, she will do better

Only time i try to follow the milage is on the hwy. I ride to and fro work daily and use lots of fuel, i get about 80 miles a tank. Now my office is less than a mile away and I don't get above 40mph. My guess is that all that time in 1st and 2nd gear suck the fuel away. On the hwy the best i have gotten is and average of 43 mtg. typically i see it around 37-38 mph.

I was last fall getting 35 - 37 mpg, on my 05 1600. Then I installed a fairing and new spark plugs. Last weekend we rode a little over 500 miles and I got 40+ mpg on every fill up. I have gotten a couple of fill ups where I got 44 mpg.
