Don't know what you might do to stop that. I have never had that problem. Might try putting some graphite down in the key slot. It won't tighten it any but might help alleviate the noise. The liquid graphite will keep the mechanism working smoothly.

Remove the key.

1. Unlock the ignition and turn the switch to "on".
2. Remove key.
3. Start bike.
4. Ride bike.
5. When done, turn ignition switch to "off".

When you want to ride again, repeat steps 1-5.

Then I would be wondering, where did I put that key.

I had the same problem but it turned out to be the key fob rattling on the meter cover. Drove me crazy for a while because it only happened when the fob fell to the back and was fine when it fell to the front.

Wear it on a long chain around your neck. After starting put the chain and key in your shirt.

Another simple solution to every day problems............

I have my key on one of those curly plastic bands (bright blue) that does not rattle or mar the finish. I can put it on my wrist or in a pocket when leaving the bike...works for me.

I put my key in my pocket after taking it out of the ignition. This isn't rocket science, people.

Key Vibrates

Funny. I wanted to post this exact same thing just a few days ago. been hearing this rattle on my 08 right around the shifting points, typically 1st and 2nd gears when I rev a bit higher. Iv'e been around all the bolts twice now trying to find it. I just happened to look at the key and saw how much it was moving the other day. I have just the key, no attachments on it, key fobs or rings, I can't believe how much it rattles in there. I know it's easy enough to pull it and put it in a pocket or something but I like having it in there while riding, taking out only when parked otherwise I may forget it somewhere or something crazy. I have my spare key, I'll see if that does any better.

I'm one of those who prefer to keep the key in the ignition while riding. so far mine does not rattle. I only have a soft piece of leather for a key fob.
To stop the rattle if you prefer to keep the key in, you could try cutting a slit in the center of a small 3/4 in circle of soft rubber
( neoprene, old mouse pad might work ). Slide the shank of the key through the slit just far enough so that it makes contact with the ignition switch when the key is inserted.

Like I said in a earlier post, I was having this same problem. Believe it or not, turn the key around. I had it in upside down. My key is shaped oh, kinda like a tear drop or squinty eyeball on top. with the key on, but big end was down towards the tank, it vibrated like crazy, pulled it out and put in in with small end towards the tank and vibration is gone!

I like ridding with my key removed but did not realize I could do that until the recent rally in Cortez. I start it up and put the key in my pocket or in the pack to my back. It is a nice feature.
