My local in the U.K shut down. It was a big shock to walk there from my mums and find the pub boarded up. My grandad and my dad used to go there long before I ever set foot in the place. It was a place to go for a game of snooker, cards, and darts. No food, bags of crisps or peanuts was all that was on the menu.
There are 3 pubs within walking distance of my mums place that have closed in the last 5 years. Hardly surprising when a can of beer in the supermarket is less than a third of what it is in the pub.
It used to be years ago that beer was almost the same price in the off licence as it was in the pub, so everyone went to the pub to socialize.

Nowadays its 4 cans of beer from the supermarket and a takeaway and then go home and watch TV.

I had the perfect apartment in Norfolk, Virginia. An Irish Pub right across a four lane highway.

I ain't been in a Pub or a Bar in decades for the same reason Bloke. I couldn't pick up a woman back then and the ones I could pick up were so big me and two other fellers bigger than me couldn't pick 'em up.

Now if I pick up one my wife's nose gets all crooked.
