Stroked 1500?

I have been looking at big bore kits for my 1500 and I have noticed that there are no stroker kits available (or at least none that I have seen). Anybody know why this is? I know the 1600s have the same bore size as the 1500s, but with a longer stroke. So what's to keep some one from putting a 1600 crank in a 1500 case? I realize that it probably won't just bolt right up but why doesn't anyone offer a crank for the 1500 with the longer stroke of the 1600? Has anyone ever built a motor like this?

Stroked 1500?

Stroking a 1500 to make it a 1600 won't do a whole lot for the money invested. If you know anything about stroker motors it should be clear.

Stroker motors are for engines that are already short stroked. Nomad 1500 are already decently long in stroke. A stroker motor needs a new crankshaft so the crank journals are futher away from the centerline hence "stroked" and the barrels have to be shimmed, possible different balancing weights. Pistons that are shorting from the pin to the piston crown. I won't go all that would be into it but about 2K in parts alone without labor for a little bit more torque. Not wise money spent.

Cams, head work and injection work would make a 1500 stomp on a 1600 at any rpm!..

Stroked 1500?

I think Thunder Mfg has a kit for the Vulcans, but its a big bore kit with a cam change if I remember correctly.

Muzzy also offers a 95" kit. I was thinking that it might be like the old bore and stroke a 350 out to a 383 deal. I am already planning on boring the jugs and changing the pistons so I was hoping I could swap in the 1600 crank (and maybe do a little clearancing to the crankcase) to get a little more stroke out of it at the same time. Cams and head work are already part of the plan but I don't just want to stomp a 1600, I want to stomp the new 1700s as well.

There's always the "Nitrous Oxide" option,,,,,,,,,,
And, I have seen "Turbo Chargers" on Vulcans

Stroked 1500?

I don't see where you would gain much for the costs.. Once I owned a 01 1500 for 361 days, where I rode it almost everyday. It was stolen, so I replaced it with a 06 1600. i can't say I really feel anything different power wise. I rode both all stock and then modified the common things many others also do, for more power.

IF and I have no intent to do so, I was going to stroke a 1500 with 1600 parts, I would also add the cams and the intake from a meanie. And IF I did this I would make to sure ballance the engine, and change the settings for the rev limiter. To me still this wouldn't be cost effective.

I might add the cams and the intake from a meanie anyway, less the total tear down to stroke. This might be cost effective for more power.

Yes BD, indeed we do... This was my way to getting at meanie parts.. I sure would like a parking lot crashed meanie this winter to get the parts from too... One no one got killed on. I have a thing about parts from bikes were someone was killed. You probably call it superstition..

Nitrous is for drag racing. I will never understand why people use it on the street. Turbos, on the other hand, are lots of fun. As far as cost effectiveness, I understand that there probably is none for stroking the 1500. I'm not saying that I will/should do this. But what I'm asking is this, can you put a 1600 crank in a 1500 motor?

Perhaps a ZX-14 should be in your future, no modifications necessary... ;)

I could be wrong, but I belive a 1600 crank will fit in a 1500 case. The engines are almost identical. The fake chrome valve covers are one difference, but they are fake anyway. I am not sure if you could then run 1600 rods or not.

I have heard a few reports on using Nitrous in these engines, and what appears most common is the clutch can't deal with it.
