Vulcan Baggers Photo

So too much time on my hands this week (unused vacation) and I have been playing on the computer. Have put together some collages of Vulcans. Thought this one you folks might like.

Dave --- The cold is getting to you. You need to insulate that box.

racinfan101 --- I have some unused vacation time, too. About 500 hours worth. I won't use much of it as things would fall apart in my tiny corner of the facility if I took more than a couple days off then I'd have to fix it all once I got back. Think I'll try to take a week off this summer for a rally, though.

Well I sure did not have 500 hours worth! I did get in trouble with the Mrs since I between making photo collages and surfing the web I would deal with various work related e-mails and stuff. Oh well it is all past now and I really should try to use more of the time during riding season this year!

Yup. Not sure the bosses think that but if I left for any significant amount of time (or they put me on another post), they'd realize it fast. I tend to give up just about everything else when I'm "on a mission". This particular post started out as temporary about 2 years ago. I gave it 110% figuring I could at least get them out of a jam, then I'd go back to my "regular" post. Turns out, I was doing a good enough job that they kept me here. For the most part, I love it but there are those days..... I spend 60-70 hours a week getting paid for what I do and another 10-20 on my own time. (Half an hour here and there plus stuff at home.) Most of what I do goes unnoticed. I'm good with that. The only time anyone realizes what I do is when I'm not here to do it and someone complains.

I wouldn't have that much time either but...well, see my last post. I just don't take vacations. Last time I took a vacation was July '11. I took a whole 3 days off to move. This June I'll be at my job 10 years so I'll get a "bonus" 60 hours of vacation on my anniversary date (in addition to the 7.5 hours I get every month). I wish I could buy the vacation time out. I could use an extra check.

I had a great job once, I did it for 17 years. Health, Life, Dental and
Optical insurances were paid for, every Holiday (paid) and 4 weeks
Vacation. I could stop work and go watch my sons for a short while at
every local sporting event. I was home more than with any other job
before or after. It was great while the boys were going through high
school. Well, they (family owned business) received an offer they couldn't
refuse, so they sold out to a large corporation. Six months later
everything changed. Everything...
Always make yourself useful and as indisposable as possible, but
remember no one is indisposable.

Nope. I'll never get laid off due to the nature of the work but they can certianly move me to another post for any reason at any time. I hope they don't but everyone moves to another post eventually.

Loafer, you are right on the money with your last sentence. So many issues beyond a person's control come into play when it involves one's job. Most involve $$$ and/or the bottom line. And I too had one of those jobs but only had 10 years invested......the department outsourced to save the company $$$. That never did work out to their advantage. Everyone is replaceable!

The sad part is that the original company is no longer in existence. They stopped using all the brand names (stayed with their corporate names) and outsourced to other states and canada to their facilities for all the product to be made. 500 people in So. Burlington, Vt. and Plattsburgh, N.Y. lost their jobs. When corporate makes a decision, it's not always a good one.
