A motorcyclist died in a hit-and-run collision with a semi-truck this afternoon on Interstate 15, closing several northbound lanes and creating long delays for motorists.

The accident scene was cleared shortly before 7 p.m. and traffic has resumed as normal.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Chelita Rojas said the crash happened at 4:02 p.m. near the Sahara Avenue exit on northbound Interstate 15. The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash was recorded on a traffic camera and troopers are searching for the semi-truck that struck the motorcyclist, Rojas said.

Three travel lanes were closed during the evening rush hour.

Motorcyclist killed in hit & run on the I - 15 identified
Updated: Apr 08, 2010 9:51 PM PDT - NHP is investigating a deadly hit and run accident on the I - 15 Northbound at Sahara Wednesday. Officials say a 57 year old Charles Ruliffson was killed in an accident with a tractor trailer.

NHP says Ruliffson hit a car in the left lane and was then thrown from his bike into the path of a white semi tractor trailer. That trailer ran over Ruliffson.

The driver of the tractor trailer continued on, but NHP officials say the driver may not have known they ran over someone.

That is terrible. I read the stories but none of them said what really caused him to hit the car in the first place.

I figure that the truck driver probably didn't even realize that he ran the guy over. Its certainly a horrible ending.
