Spring Rally Date and Site

Looks like it will be April 24,25, 26 in Helen, GA. Now we have to decide if we want to go to the lodge at the state park http://gastateparks.org/net/content/go.aspx?s=98.0.1.5 or use hotel/motel.

Do we have anyone going that has been to the area that can recommend one or the other?

Did a little research on the state park...

I checked on the best western and it seem pretty nice . I game for any place.

I'm sure that the lodge rooms would be cheaper if we called and told them we needed 10-20 rooms.

I would like someplace that has a room or area we can use to sit around and shot the breeze on Saturday night after dinner. Nothing against parking lots but a chair is nice.

I stopped at Unicoi Park lodge today. "All" cabins are sold out for April 24-26 and May 1-3. As of today, there are a few cabins (4-1BR (all 1-queen size bed) & 6-2BR (either 1-queen & 2 dbl beds or 3 double beds) available for April 17-19. Prices are 110.00 & 130.00 per cabin per night. Lodge rooms (115.00 per night) are also going fast.
No group rates available for a group as small as ours. They booked a Harley group of 200+ and no group rate.

Couple other things I found out. Lodge serves beer and wine. As I suspected, not allowed to bring your own beverage into state park. "If" the Park Rangers catch you, will kick you out. And according to my source, they do pay special attention to motorcycle groups. Wonder why.....

Sounds to me like motel (cheaper than lodge rooms) would be better option for a group like ours. Most are within walking distance to spirits and food. We could probably get a better rate than standard rate.

I,ve never had a bad stay at a Best Western. Still game for anything..............'cept partying with the Harleys. :)

i'm running thru a bunch of cabin areas, have not hit pay dirt yet....

also ran rhough those hotel listings looking at their pictures looking for a deck area or the like...have not hit pay dirt on that either--sorru coach;)

Worse comes to worse, find the one with the best parking lot and everyone bring a chair, lol.

An idea might be to make sure the hotel we choose has a bar/lounge or is next to a restaurant with a bar lounge or separate room they might banish us too. May have to pay a couple buck more per night but to me it would be worth it.
