Bad Weekend in NW Arkansas

My wife's friend who lost her husband to brain cancer last month
has suffered another loss. Her nephew and his wife were killed Saturday near Winslow.

WINSLOW, Ark. (AP) — Arkansas State Police say a husband and wife were killed when their motorcycles were struck by a truck that crossed the center line.

Authorities say the wreck happened early Saturday evening near Winslow in Washington County. Killed were 32-year-old James Swearingen and 41-year-old Lori Swearingen of Gentry.

A police report says the pair was traveling north on U.S. Highway 71 when a Dodge truck crossed the center line and hit them. Three other motorcyclists who were traveling with them were also hurt.

Then Sunday a few miles north in Fayetteville a motorcyclist was killed when a woman ran a stop sign and struck him in the intersection. He was transported to the hospital where he died a short time later.

I'm sorry to hear all of this Dave. I've only been riding a couple of years but I've observed more stupid people in those 2 years than in my lifetime. Talking and texting on their cellphones, putting on makeup, reading a magazine, etc. Just yesterday, about 1/4 mile from my home, a woman crossed over the center enough to result in my moving all the way over to the right side of my lane. I'd have loved to have had a handfull of rocks to get her attention. More motorcyclists are killed because of this insanity. I think some of the worst drivers down here are school bus drivers. No consideration for others at all. They will pull out right in front of you in an intersection and roll about 50 feet before stopping to let kids off. I was following one full of kids on LA-20 a couple of months ago and had to get up to 70 mph to get around the woman. They're always in a big hurry. Oh well, again I'm sorry for your wife's friend's loss. She has to be devastated with the things that have been happening to the ones she loves. Take care.

Always be cautious on the bike, especially at this time of year, cars don't seem to notice bikes as much and especially early in the season.
