Luggage rack for new TRUNK

Can anyone tell me what is the best type of luggage rack that I can purchase for my 2006 that will fit the stock passenger side bars? ???

I am removing the sissy bar to install a new MUTAZU Trunk. ;)

Thanks

Note: Perhaps someone came up with a "made-up" solution to a regular rack. Pictures will be a great help, if any. ::)

I would'nt clamp it to the existing luggage rack, seems a little hazardous. I would buy a WOMPUS RACK and bolt the thing down...Just my thoughts.

I agree with JJ, the WOMPUS RACK is the way to go. The luggage rack (most of them including Kawasaki & cobra) are only supposed to carry only 10 lbs. The WOMPUS can handle 120 lbs. Yes you do have to lose those nice grag rails, but my wife said that she doesn't need them.
Just my thoughts too.

I’m building my own trunk rack.
Here’s what I have so far.

Hope this link works.

Hey Glassgod, how ya been? That rack looks really nice. It appears that it bolts in place of the passenger backrest? I like that. When are you going to start mass-producing them?

Yes, it does go where the passenger backrest would be. Let me get this one built first since I'm relying on a friend to do the welding.

Glassgod, it might be a little late to help you, but I'm trying to accomplish the same thing that you are, but I found that the trunk would be too high up to suit me.

I devised a way to lower my grab rails, thereby lowering the trunk, but keeping a near stock look with the grab bars.

Look at these pictures and see how the grab bar lowers in relation to the seat. At this point if you did it, you'd have to change the angle of your rack to match the new angle.

As far as you've already gone, this might be a little late for you.

Dan, I tried to match the trunks back rest with the OEM rest , only by bolting it on will tell.
Here's what the trunk looks like on the bike before the welding.
Cactusjack I know you want one. ha ha

That one seems to look better that high than the Venture trunks do.

Here are a few pics of how I mounted mine.
I had a post detailing how I built the bracket on this site a while back, but I can't find it now.
Hope these pictures give you some ideas, by removing the 4 bolts, I can remove the trunk, and install the original backrest in a matter of a few minutes.

Terbear

I had the '89 venture trunk on mine for about a year and didn't really like how high it sat. I bought a harley FLHTCU tour pak, re colored it and mounted it on the same wompus rack, and it sits abour 3 1/2" lower, and the arm rests are about 5" lower. After that I was conversing with Wompus, and he said he could make the rack lower and/or longer. Just tell him what I wanted.
