Oyster Run 2009

I was wondering if there were any members {probably west coast members} considering doing this year's Oyster Run in Anacortes WA.
Maybe we could get some Canadian members to meet up with the NorthWest Group there. I've never done the run before but would be interested. It's a great little town. I've been there for a great swap meet and an arts and crafts type of due.

Oyster Run 2009

Way too far west for me to think of riding. Living in north Alabama it is a heck of a treck. When I drove an 18 wheeler my first trip was from Gadsden, AL to Seattle, WA. Beautifu country up there. Going back my first trip was Portland, OR and my second was to Seattle. Sorry about that. Still beautiful country and would love to ride out there.

Oyster Run 2009

I'd love to make this run but Sunday, September 27, 2009 is pushing it for us Northern Alberta guys to head out. We did a 5 day run through BC in June this year and got caught coming out of Lake Louise in a snow storm. We were staying at Saskatchewan River Crossing and had to keep our speed down to about 70-80 kph. (it was a long cold, wet ride ) It was 0 and roads were covered in slush and visibility was very poor. The cagers thought we were nuts. Hope you get a few guys out and make the run.

Oyster Run 2009

Wish I could do it this year. I'm working in Knoxville, TX for a month or so then will head for Maryland for another three weeks starting Sept 14. Not sure when I'll get home. Gotta go where the work is, unfortunaly.

Went to Oyster Run the last two years. Actually, last year I bypassed Anacortis part and just road my own ride. It's a great time just watching all the bikes on the roads. Downtown is just wall to wall motorcycles. Have a ball and take lots of pictures.

Rick,
I would be up for meeting someplace, but just so you know, Anacortes itself is a nightmare of people and bikes....very, very crowded. It's fun just to skirt town and watch all the other bikes by the thousands pour in!

I've heard it gets pretty busy. I thought I'd just leave from "the cabin" and go for the day. I hear some come a day early and leave a day late. If you're up to it lets stay in touch as the time gets closer. I'll have just moved by then and I'm hoping I can get away for one last ride before the insurance runs out.
How did the baseball go? Hope you had a blast.

If you go it is almost better to stay right in town for the night because it is such a pain to get in/out of town with everyone else.

I can't commit yet but I might be able to work something out as we get closer.

Rick,
Lets try to hook up. We have a new member in Tacoma who might like to join us too. We'll see as we get closer...we'll come up with a plan. Maybe Charlie wants in too....

BTW...the baseball was awesome...

I believe the Oyster takes place on the 27th.... Yes? I'll have moved into the new home by then so it should be good. Let's hope for good weather. Any sign of rain and I'll be out. It'll be my last outing of the year kris. The insurance runs out Oct. 3rd. Would you just come up for the day or a day before? Sat. Maybe a stay at "the cabin" might be in order and then ride down from there.

I'll have to make it just a day ride because I think I am "On Call" for work that week. I can still ride for the day, but I have to be able to make some calls and go in if it is an extreme emergency, otherwise I can have my underlings take care of things. We'll chat as we get closer, but we could meet somplace (maybe on Hwy 9) and see what we wnat to do. Going into town (Anacortes) is probably not a great idea, but getting close and skirting around it is just as fun since you will see hundreds if not thousands of bikes anyways.

Huh!! Oh I'm going in to town. I want to visit the vendors. How bad can it be? If it's on the main drag of the old part of town isn't it.

So that is what I have been reduced to...an "UNDERLING"?? You can imagine what us underlings call you!

I hope it is good weather on that weekend...I am hoping to be up that way....won't know for awhile.

I'm assuming you and Kris work together "schoeny"...... just what DO YOU call Kris. This could be good.
When I start barking orders around my place, my wife "judygirl" calls me MR. Bossy Pants.
or Mr. B.P.. But at least she shows respect and calls me MR..

back to the Oyster Run though. I would expect that in town would be where we can see the bikes lined up and parked. What did you have in mind Kris? It sounds as though you want to park at a roadside coffee shop and watch the bikes roll by. I'm unclear as to how you want to do things. You've been there before have you?

Underlings are the guys who work for me here at work. Guys like Schoeney...as my ARL, are respected counterparts ;) ! I know he says nothing but nice things about me.... !

As for going into town Rick, you have no idea what you are in for. The main drag is about a mile and a half long....and will be solid bikes on both sides of the road and a couple rows in the middle. You can't hardly move into or out of that place without a major hassle.

Some people are into that, but yes, having been there....it's not really for me. I would suggest getting there very early in the morning or maybe even getting a room in town the night before if it's not too late.

There are only a couple ways into Anacortes, so it's quite a show just to kind of ride up close to town then pull up short. Even all the small little towns in a 20 mile radius of Anacortes are stuffed with bikes. It's just cool to be out among them without actually getting buried by the masses. It is something to see however, so if you have never seen it...I guess I can see the attraction.
